This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved.     What is the difference between:

    CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo 24X/24X/24X/8X Max, Ultrabay Slim [subtract $50.00]
    and
    DVD Recordable 8x Max Dual Layer, Ultrabay Slim [Lenovo recommended]

    Is the only difference that the second can burn Dual Layer DVD's (which are not popular, or cheap)?

    The CD-RW/DVD-ROM can burn CDs and read DVDs. No burning of any DVDs here.

    DVD Recordable burns and reads CDs, DVDs, and dual layer DVDs.

    You'll have to pay the $50 if you want to burn DVDs.
