Hello guys,
I've googled and check the search here but couldn't quite find a solution to my problem. I've got a Dell M1730 which had Vista on it. Now I wanted to install Windows 7 but it told me "A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing..".
Now Google told me that this was some kind of RAID problem and I should switch the HDD to non-RAID, which would wipe my OS. I didn't mind wiping Vista so I did that, however, that didn't solve the problem.
I don't have the original driver disc unfortunately and a CD/DVD driver I downloaded from the Dell page didn't help either. Can anyone help me out here please?
Thank you so much,
MepH

Your CD/DVD drive does not require a device driver. Check your Device Manager by typing DEVMGMT.MSC into the Run command. Look for any devices that say UNKNOWN DEVICE. If you find one, right click on it and choose
Properties ----> Details Tab ---> Hardware Ids
Copy the entry and then google it. You should be able to pin down what device it is and then grab the driver for it.
You can also head over to the XPS M1730 Owners Lounge and we'll see what more we can do to assist you.
