Note: Everyone can post what they find of interest in the CES 2020 coverage here in this thread. Please post cool stuff from CES 2020, I don't have time to do it all myself. ;)

2020 International CES will begin on Tuesday, January 7 and ends on Friday, January 10

It's almost that time of the year again, CES 2020 is a week away and already there are lots of news teasers from vendors as to what will be shown:

CES 2020: Here's what you can expect to see at the world’s biggest tech event

Meet Neon, Samsung’s artificial human (who is nothing like Bixby), at CES 2020
By Aaron Mamiit December 29, 2019 8:30AM PST
    https://www.digitaltrends.com/cool-tech/samsung-neon-not-like-bixby-unveiling-ces-2020/

"Samsung is set to unveil a new artificial intelligence product named Neon at CES 2020, and apparently, it will be nothing like the company’s A.I.-powered digital assistant Bixby.
Not much is known about Neon so far, aside from what has been posted so far on the product’s social media pages. The pinned tweet for Neon’s official Twitter account, meanwhile, is just three words that form a cryptic message.

    NEON = ARTIFICIAL HUMAN
    NEON (@neondotlife) December 27, 2019

Supporting the “Artificial Human” teaser is a series of posters bearing the tagline “Have you met an ‘artificial’?”, with some of them in foreign languages.

Have you ever met an "ARTIFICIAL"?
    #NEON #CES2020 pic.twitter.com/9y4sSFITSK
    NEON (@neondotlife) December 23, 2019

The speculation was that Neon is a more advanced version of Bixby, as Samsung has described the product as an “artificial intelligence being” that may become a user’s “best friend.” This certainly calls to mind a digital assistant like Bixby, but Neon’s official Twitter account shot down the comparison.

Honored to have so much coverage even before we unveil. But contrary to some news, NEON is NOT about Bixby, or anything you have seen before. #NEON is coming to #CES2020, so stay tuned! @neondotlife NEON (@neondotlife) December 26, 2019

Neon is developed by the Samsung Technology and Advanced Research Labs, or STAR Labs. Leading the unit as its President and CEO is Pranav Mistry, who is best known for his work on the Sixth Sense augmented reality technology and the Galaxy Gear smartwatch.

Mistry himself apparently could not contain his excitement for Neon.

For past few years, I have been working on something exciting. FOLLOW @neondotlife to learn more. Please SHARE and ask your friends to join, too. https://t.co/m3DEbTqqYe pic.twitter.com/jaWgALTzj4
    Pranav Mistry (@pranavmistry) December 16, 2019

Samsung’s Bixby is different from its rival digital assistants, namely Apple’s Siri, Google Assistant, and Amazon’s Alexa, as the software is spread out to several apps, and on the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10 Plus, those are Bixby Home, Bixby Vision, and Bixby Voice. Not all Samsung smartphone users are a fan of Bixby though, which has resulted in tutorials on how to remap the Bixby Key at the sides of Galaxy S10, Galaxy S9, and Galaxy S8 devices.

It remains to be seen exactly how Neon will be different from Bixby, and how it will be an improvement to the shortcomings of Samsung’s digital assistant. Fortunately, the wait will not be for long, as Neon is set to be unveiled after just over a week at CES 2020.

In addition to Neon, here is what we expect to see at CES 2020. The annual trade show will officially open the exhibition floor of the Las Vegas Convention Center on January 7.

Samsung is teasing plans to unveil what it calls an “artificial human” called NEON at the Consumer Electronics Show, which kicks off January 7.

For the past couple of weeks, a series of posts from the official NEON social media accounts have asked the same question in various languages — “Have you ever met an ‘ARTIFICIAL’?” — with a post shared on December 26 spelling it out that “NEON = ARTIFICIAL HUMAN.”

    FOMO on tech
The Consumer Technology Association (CTA) recently established specifications to certify 8K TVs, and Samsung's newest 8K TVs apparently fall short. The CES 2020 Innovation Awards are done months ahead of the actual show, and the awards were announced for Samsung back in November:

Samsung Electronics wins 46 CES 2020 Innovation Awards
    Nov 7, 2019

All of the honoree's for the CES 2020 Innovation Awards are listed on this CES 2020 page:

    CES 2020 Innovation Awards
The CES Innovation Awards is an annual competition honoring outstanding design and engineering in consumer technology products.
    https://www.ces.tech/Innovation-Awards/Honorees.aspx

I can already see some of these products (TWS, IEM's, Headphones) are superseded with newer models recently.

The Samsung 30TB SSD might still hold the top title in it's category:

Samsung 30.72TB PCIe Gen4 NVMe SSD

    By Samsung Electronics
Honoree - Computer Hardware & Components
Samsung 30.72TB PCIe Gen4 NVMe SSD (PM1733) is the industry’s fastest and largest capacity SSD. It is based on next-gen PCIe Gen4 solid state technology, and is targeted at AI analysis, big data and IoT applications, as well as other apps requiring extremely high reliability and performance.

We Tried the Brand New IMPOSSIBLE PORK at CES 2020
    Jan 7, 2020
    Digital Trends
Impossible Foods, the company behind the Impossible Burger and one of the leaders in the rapidly growing “fake meat” industry, announced its next product at CES 2020: Impossible Pork. A plant-based substitute for ground pork, promises the flavor and texture of pork with far less of an environmental impact. It’s also gluten-free and aimed at kosher/halal certifications. According to Impossible Foods, Impossible Pork’s flavor will convey “depth and umami richness without being gamey or overpowering.” The company also claims the product should work for various recipes that calls for ground pork, whether you want to fry up some sausage patties for breakfast or caramelize some pork for a rice bowl. Impossible Foods attended CES last year, too, showing off its second-generation Impossible Burger, a recipe that stunned us with how much it resembled real beef — all thanks to a molecule called “heme,” which gives meat its distinctive flavor but can also be found in plants. We were so impressed, we crowned it the Top Tech of CES. Since then, the Impossible Burger has become a bona fide cultural sensation, showing up in restaurants (including Burger King) and stores across America.

The ryzen mobile processors are much much much needed to reign down on team blue's overpriced offerings. I think team blue's monopoly has caused to forget how to be competitive again. Things are shaping up for a richer and more diverse laptop processor market and of course, the customer/industry wins big!!!

    You got that right :)

AMD is doing the right thing, and focusing as best they can to get as many laptops out with their new range of APU's / dGPU's in the "fat" range of sales all the way up to the 4800H + 5700M, more than most of us need.

What follows depends on how the gamers and buyers out there respond. Now is the time to vote with our wallets and help AMD cement their relationships with vendors, so we can see continually higher performance AMD laptops in the next generation laptops moving forward.

There will be teething issues like every new technology... so be ready for that too. :)

I've gotta admit, I am thrilled that so many people are eating "fake" beef and soon "fake" pork, as that will leave far more inexpensive "real" meat for the rest of us... :D

As I supported them with the Helios 500, I'll do it here too. Unfortunately my company can't touch too many AMD processors, because intel gives them "discount" on volume orders. I hope that will change soon, as I believe even the volume orders would be cheaper with team red.

There are some existing options for 4k @ 120hz, like the already shipping Studio laptops and Razor's 4k 120hz laptop. Without new GPU's there isn't much better 4k performance to encourage a push for new 4k @ 120hz models; current models can perform as well as new ones. New Intel CPU's in high end laptops aren't getting appreciably better, and the new 10c/20t i9 10900K may be detuned to draw less power, or run hotter than previous 8c/16t K sku's.

At this CES there seems to be a focus on much higher than 120hz / 144k refresh rate 1080p screens. CES 2020 is featuring mostly 1080p @ 240hz / 300hz+.

Click on 4k 120hz laptop CES 2020 to see what else that search finds now, and as time moves forward.

CES 2020: NVIDIA Turing Laptops - ASUS 360hz Gaming Monitor !
    Jan 7, 2020
    KitGuruTech
Leo and Luke are over at CES in Las Vegas this week for all the latest on the newest releases. Today they spent some time with Nvidia to look at the plethora of new turing laptops they are bringing out with partners in 2020. Read more here: http://bit.ly/2FuuXYp
See this youtube's details area for far more details on what is in the video...
***pics - RTX Studio Laptop, HP AIO Davinci AI GeForce, ASUS ProArt, Nvidia Gaugan • RTX studio makes a lot of sense as creators don’t constantly want driver updates for new games that they don’t care about if just doing Premiere and other Adobe stuff - makes sense • Showing Adobe Premiere Pro doing video reframing for usage on different screen resolutions (e.g. mobile phone) and using AI with the GPU acceleration to do the task. • ASUS ProArt StudioBook One Quadro RTX 6000 shows what power can be put inside a laptop. Already seen at IFA but Nvidia confirmed that they worked hard with ASUS to do the design especially for cooling. o The demo was showing a really heavy CAD image of a person that was rendering when selected and moved. Pushing the CUDA capability of the RTX 6000 Quadro very hard indeed • HP AIO PC with up to RTX 2080 Max-Q. The system was surprisingly sleek. Using the GPU to do AI-based computation for inserting intermediate frames into slowed down 8K R3D footage. With this mode, the video looked choppy but with the AI smoothing feature, the inserted frames helped smooth motion. A few seconds of this test footage took a few mins to complete the smoothing task on a GeForce power system, Intel iGPU should be far longer, and CPU only was around an hour. • Nvidia Gaugan is a cool feature that uses AI inference to try to infer what is trying to be drawn on a screen with a pen. Cool feature and useful for artists who need a quick, basic model

Good luck, and I hope you find what you are looking for. :)

One more thing. Often laptops that get announced at CES don't come out in volume until March or even later, so be prepared to wait for what you want from CES 2020. If you need something right now or soon, I would recommend getting whatever is best available now:

    Razer Blade Pro 17- 4K 120Hz Review
    Oct 10, 2019
    MobileTechReview
Lisa Gade reviews the just released 4K UHD 120Hz fast refresh display + wide color gamut edition of the 2019 Razer Blade Pro 17. Fast refresh 4K laptop displays are very rare, so this is one of the few that is well suited to both 4K content creation and high fps gaming. This is a high end configuration with NVIDIA RTX 2080 Max-Q and 1TB SSD. A Core i7-9750H 6-core processor, Razer Chroma per key RGB backlit keyboard and Thunderbolt 3 are standard on the Blade Pro 17.

If that’s not enough for you, there’s also a G15, let’s go through what we know so far about these new gaming laptops in this video! Thanks for the input. Though, I won't be gaming in 4K, my primary usage will be development and real estate is much needed when on the go. When gaming occasionally, I'ld totally be fine with FHD..

Thanks for all the uploads and in particular this video from kitguru! Laptop content has been limited and this is one of the only videos that actually shows workstations (albeit briefly).

That StudioBook One looks fantastic - I'd love to have a new workstation laptop this year. I'm sure that RTX 6000 quadro is going to blow the cost of this beyond the extreme upper limit of my budget, but one can dream haha.

The jury is out until we have reviews of the 4000 series ryzen mobile processors, a bit disheartening though that no manufacturers stepped up with another socketed AM4 system featuring the 65w desktop parts. Especially when Asus and Acer did this the past two years when the 1700 and 2700 made much less sense than Zen 2 in the power/performance envelope for mobile.

I suspect I'll have to wait for 2021 or later before a mobile 17" AMD workstation becomes a reality.

AMD's range of Ryzen 4000 APU's + 5x00M GPU's should cover most of the range of needs for laptops, which parallels AMD's range of desktop components.

A 3700x 65w desktop part is the same as the 3800x 105w desktop part except for power binning and power delivery, and in a laptop there are tighter thermal limits than on a desktop.

My 65w rated 3700x draws as much as 105w under fierce load - AMD doesn't lock out voltage tuning or overclocking or power control - and my 3700x sustains that power draw as long as it can remain cool. With water cooling during continuous load between 65w-105w my 3700x runs between 50c-75c depending on the kind of 100% load I give it. That is at a manual all core OC of 4343mhz @ 3.25v threshold.

Hopefully AMD Ryzen 4000 CPU's and Radeon 5x00 GPU's will also have unlocked power limits so that laptop vendors can tune their AMD laptops with more capable cooling to higher performance - close to desktop performance.

Laptops are limited by power delivery to the CPU / GPU and the resulting cooling requirements - and vendors size the laptop performance to match the customer demand for smaller, thinner, lighter laptops - even if that sizing is detrimental to the performance of the laptop. Many laptop buyers want performance, but most seem to prefer and purchase smaller form factor laptops.

I expect that the AMD's mobile 4xxxH CPU and 5x00M GPU should be able to reach AMD desktop level performance, now we have to wait to see if vendors deliver the full performance possible. :)

Being a tech journalist is a stressful job. And CES is the most stressful time of year. So naturally, I'm looking for any opportunity I have to take a couple of minutes, breathe, relax and just focus on myself. Which meant the first thing I did when I rolled into Unveiled -- basically the officially kickoff party for CES -- was wander over the booth for Core, a device designed to help you meditate.

Talking with Neon AI, Samsung’s best attempt at being human
    Jan 7, 2020
    CNET
Neon has built up a lot of hype at CES 2020, and we got a chance to see the first live demo in action. Neon is a lifelike avatar from a Samsung research subsidiary called Star Labs. It’s designed to look, talk and move like a human. After the demo, I had a chance to talk to Neon myself. I wanted to see if this ambitious tech could live up to the hype.

But instead of dropping two grand on an Aibo, check out this unnervingly cute companion robot from Korean developer, Circulus. Say hello to piBo. PiBo is built with service in mind. It can act as an alarm clock, recount the day's weather and top news stories, play music, take pictures and remind you of upcoming appointments. Its functionality is easily expanded to include home security integration, voice and facial recognition and more thanks to a dedicated app store. You can even code your own programs and features if have the skills. PiBo itself can be controlled through voice commands, QR-embedded flash cards, or through its associated dashboard app (available for both iOS and Android).

    The cars of CES 2020

    Engadget
So many concept cars. And a flying taxi!

Hyundai S-A1 Air Taxi first look at CES 2020
    Jan 7, 2020
    Engadget
Uber's flying taxi initiative is edging closer to reality. The ridesharing giant and Hyundai have unveiled a previously hinted-at flying taxi concept, the S-A1, that could ultimately handle Uber Air trips. It's not a radical break from projects with other partners, but that would still make it a very flexible vehicle. The all-electric aircraft would take off and land vertically, and carry as many as four passengers at cruising speeds of up to 180MPH for trips as far as 60 miles. Although it would have a pilot at first, it would ultimately be fully autonomous.

Mercedes has made sure to play up its tech chops during the past few CES events and this year is no different. But instead of a straight autonomous electric vehicle, it's gone a little wacky with the vehicle that's based on the Avatar movie. Yep, the James Cameron film. The Mercedes-Benz AVTR (advance vision transportation) is electric and can drive forwards and sideways. The vehicles is a rolling light show with displays that spread out beyond the dash. The vehicle has clear doors to get the driver closer to nature. Read our full story on Engadget: https://www.engadget.com/2020-01-07-m...

Audi AI:ME first look at CES 2020
    Jan 6, 2020
    Engadget
The AI:Me (pronounced Amy) is the automaker's "empathetic mobility partner." With level-4 abilities, the self-driving vehicle is built for dense urban environments. Its small footprint makes nimble enough to cruise down small roads and park in tiny spaces. Yet, the AI:Me is more than just a small, smart car. Audi wants it to be a sanctuary. The interior is meant to resemble a home with a completely wood dash, cluster and center console. The seats feel more like swanky Swedish furniture than a car seat and its copious amount of glass makes the interior feel much larger than it actually is.

    Foldable PCs at CES 2020

Foldable phones may have had a rocky 2019, but that hasn't deterred other companies from exploring the world of flexible screens. At CES 2020 we saw foldable PC prototypes from three different companies, Intel, Dell, and Lenovo, and Lenovo's Thinkpad X1 Fold you can actually buy. The Dell Ori and Duet, and Intel Horseshoe Bend probably won't ever go on sale, but are a look at the kind of devices we might be able to expect to see in the future.

Saw that this morning from in the Acer Helios 500 thread! Looks like it may be a 15”, I thought 17” was a given considering the cooling needs.

Biggest question remaining for me is whether or not the gpu will be MXM, 1660ti is nice though I hope there’s an option for quadros.

A closer look at NEON at CES 2020
    Jan 8, 2020
    Engadget
Neon and its "artificial human" avatars were the first viral hit of CES. It had everything to get the internet excited: A corporate giant (the company is from Samsung's STAR Labs), buzzwords (Avatars! Realistic AI assistants!) and confusion. Redditors combed the internet for details and YouTube channel Good Content pulled together a surprisingly comprehensive dossier on a company that's barely half a year old. Neon then officially announced itself to CES in a press release rich in hyperbole, complicated machine learning jargon and a pretty opaque mission statement. There was also the promise of Neons "reacting and responding in real-time". I had to see it for myself.

Looking at the pictures it’s pretty clear it’s a soldered GPU. This is an NH5x/7x series model, and Clevo only uses MXM on their P7 series. Idk about Quadro, but it will be configurable up to a 115W RTX 2070.

Again, hoping to see the onslaught of amd laptops coming in very very hot! Finally the laptop space, getting the attention it deserves :).
The mech g17 is still my awesome machine although I do prefer remoting to it from my Surface Laptop 3 (don't ask, my company gets me these laptops as loans, as long as I keep coding ;)).
I wish the Surface Laptop 3 came in the 17" flavor but the 3:2 ratio makes the 15" estate quite pleasant. The Ryzen 5 it sports is more than capable and runs really nice while lasting 6-8 hours easy.

Intel so far is offering a lot of fluff (AI? Seriously?). I don't want to sound like an AMD fanboy but after years of sucking up and paying the intel premium tax (and nvidia too to a certain degree), I can't wait to drop more support on team red's terrific rise.

Right now I'm waiting for a 17"+ lightweight all AMD laptop (something like the lenovo y740s but 17" would be very close or the Eluktronics MAX 17) .

It's going to be a pretty epic year!
