    I just stumbled upon these today: Newegg.com - CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1866 Laptop Memory Model CMSX8GX3M2A1866C10

Also comes in DDR3-1600 at half the price: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233242

They look and work just like Kingston's HyperX PnP DDR3-1866 except with better timings and priced much better even though Kingston's version has been out for almost half a year now, they're PnP like Kingston's offering.

I'll be getting one of those pairs in a few weeks, I was going to get Kingston's HyperX 'DDR3-1600' as the HyperX 1866 were too expensive over 1600 with too loose ram timings for my taste but these new Corsair's will fit my bill and ram timing expectations. :)

How much of a difference do you expect to see? How much speed can your current setup take as far as performance before it reaches a ceiling?

The Vengeance is PnP for i5 and i7 Sandy Bridge CPU's so essentially the best performer would be the DRR-1866 version of Corsair's Vengeance which looks to better than Kingston's HyperX DRR3-1866 because of the tighter timings.

I'm assuming about 15% + gain with the HD3000 IGP paired with Corsair's Vengeance DDR3-1866 if the ram indeed runs at the advertised speed and timings.

The drawback here is Corsair's Vengeance DDR3-1866 is a $50 premium over the Vengeance DDR3-1600 version but cheaper and faster compared to Kingston's DDR3-1866 offering.

Like said, I was planning on getting the Kingston HyperX DDR3-1600 but I think I'm going with Corsair's Vengeance DDR3-1600 for less in a few weeks.

Out of curiousity, does Crucial offer anything at that speed at this time? I only use Crucial and will be buying a new system next year and will buy the base RAM and upgrade from there.

Crucial's fastest at this time is DDR3-1600.

    see here

It's CAS 11 RAM though, It'd be better to find a 1600 / CAS 9 stick set instead.

because we are talking about latency. If you have the best brakes on the car you won't be farer after pushing brakes than another car with average brakes. not the best analogie but still.

It's the access time, the lower the number the less clock cycles it takes to call something from RAM.

A simple high level explanation is that Cas 9 takes less time to do the same amount of work compared to Cas 11

A technical explanation is that Cas latency refers to the delay between when the memory controller tells the ram to access a certain address in memory and when the data from that address is available.

So the lower this delay the better

:GEEK: Well, corsair site says that their prices are bigger.... Maybe Newegg decided to lower them for first time to get more good reviews so others would like to buy it? And then increase prices.....

I've tried looking closely and think it's a very thin heatsink probably stuck on using SEKISUI thermal tape, course I could be wrong...

They look quite thick and may not fit in all systems if you use one on top of another. Good specs for the money though.

Has anyone had a chance to test these things out yet? I'd really like to know how they compare to the HyperX 1866.

In terms of what? Benchmarks? B/c that's the only thing I can think of where these will actually differ. And even then...

Agree, it is really hard to see a difference. But according to numbers you really should have it :)

ya, you're right, but sometimes you have to treat yourself to something just for the sake of it.
