    Hey everyone,

I was wondering, is a T7100 1.8ghz enough to handle a 8600m gs, I heard that different cards need different processors to back them up, so im wondering if I should overclick my cpu to "handle" my gpu(to have my 8600m at the full potential), or would it do fine?

    thank you

I wouldnt call that statement true but i see people say that. A game like devil may cry 4 which is purely gpu and has almost no AI or physics would run fine on that processor only being limited by that 8600.

EDIT - As i tried to multi quote to reply to igrim the rest of this post was deleted and unfortunatly google didnt have a cached copy of it.

What i went on to say was how most games are gpu bottle necked but there are a few games like GTA4, Saints Row 2, and World in Conflict that are CPU bottlenecked. Most games are still GPU bottlenecked especially those who dont use much ai or physics. Far Cry 2 actually can be adjusted to where it doesnt use the cpu as much.

thanks for the reply. Then I guess I should overclock my cpu and undervolt to a certain level. Do you know of any tutorials for overclocking cpu? any links would be great.

also, the only worry about overclocking cpu is overheating, right? If I undervolt the overclocked speed to the stock voltage of the stock clock, would that eliminate the problem?

It would help to know what your laptop is, if you can overclock it using software then SetFSB or in some cases ClockGEN are going to be your tools. If the PLL has TME enabled or isnt yet supported then it would take some soldering lol.

If anythings overheating id start by cleaning out the cooling system, if the warranty is up change the paste as its old by the time the warranty is gone but isnt always needed yet.

Undervolting will help with heat, ive had luck around 10C on undervolting alone. I cant say that I have had a signifigant increase in heat from overclocking the cpu.

Ah the S41, shares the motherboard with the ASUS G1S. Download a program called SetFSB from - http://www13.plala.or.jp/setfsb/
The PLL for use with SetFSB is ICS9LPR363DGLF

Use CPU-Z to confirm your bus speeds and what not as it might not show accurately. Basically just need to drag that big middle slider to the right after hitting get fsb and then hit set to set.

Your ram is a big limit in the overclock as its clock speed gets bumped up as well. I wouldnt expect to get far with it but you should be able to get to a bit over 2 Ghz.

I downloaded setFSB and used ICS9LPR363DGLF and I was able to adjust the bus speed, but the second bar was greyed out. Should I not mess with pci/pci-e freqency? btw thanks, overclocking worked :)

I dont know if it is adjustable on that notebook but yeah i wouldnt play with hte pci-e bus anyways not really worth the risk. No problem your lucky yours can be done with software but Pegatron made the motherboard which asus sold to several companies like benq.

The information provided so far is 100% incorrect. The 8600m gs is a weak chip and will be FAR be the bottleneck on ANY game. Stop listening to ClutchX2. Overclocking the CPU will do NOTHING since the video chip is so weak.

Stop listening to me, are you a moron?

I clearly supported the fact that the graphics card was the limitation. I DID NOT tell him to overclock the CPU, he asked how and i gave him the info he requested. Nice to see your dropping bombs on every other thread not just the hard drive one..... lmao

Not only did i not give out incorrect information, not only did i not tell him to overclock, not only did I agree with YOU before you even posted. You posted in a dead, over with thread. Get a life.
