    Hello mates,
I got i real issue with my heatpipe recently :( i got Acer 5745G (i7 720q, GT330M) for home use and little gaming for over year ago and goes fine with me. But all of sudden i'm facing lots of lags so i decided to open up and investigate so i found out that cpu heatpipe has small puncture near cpu end. Copper like heatpipe looks empty and some kind of white powderish thing dried up near puncture.. (i suppose that there have been some sort of liquid inside it) I think that causes pretty much failure for CPU cooling system so laptop lags when gaming. Please advise me to fix it i've been googled a while and found this forum seems a only forum saying heatpipe and stuff. Any help is appreciated

    Thanks,

You will need a new heatsink if the heatpipe is punctured. Basically a heatpipe contains a liquid (water and ammonia mix in laptops usually) that evaporates at the hot end to absorb heat and condensates where the heatsink fins and fan are to transfer that heat to the air blown by the fan.

If the pipe is empty, it will no longer function and there's no way to refill it. Heatpipes rely on pressure and capillary action to get the right liquid/vapor equilibrium. Once it is punctured or bent, it needs to be replaced.

It is easy to think a heatpipe is pure solid copper, but that wouldn't transfer heat efficiently from point A to point B.

    Err...

If you've never really taken a good look at multiple laptop heatsinks before, yours may look like it has a puncture even if it doesn't.

Also, 'white stuff' could be completely normal.

There is no way to tell what is really going on unless you post a picture. Or, if you post your temps, but then all we will know is that there's some thermal problem.
A simple repaste of the thermal compound could be all you need.

Yep, a repaste and cleaning the HS is the first thing you should try. If the HS is indeed punctured, refer to my earlier post. Pics and screenshots of temps would go a long way too.
