My common-sense & gut feeling say NO.
But does anyone experience similar issue?
When I stressed out the CPU using Prime95 the temperature could reach as high as 90 and then fluctuate from 75 - 85 degree c.
I'm using Fujitsu Lifebook T5010 btw, and no overclocking, nothing obstruct the air-vent, the ambient temperature is around 27 - 30 deg. C

try the undervolting guide.
Also which CPU do you have? -

If you are using prime95 , 90c is a bit high, but not extreme, what temp do you get at idle?
-
Hmm, Seems you've overlooked the screenshotit's Intel Core 2 Duo T9400 2.53GHz.
Anyhow the max temp. specified for my processor by intel is 105 deg. C
So.. I don't think I'm at the safe side when the CPU is in 100% utilisation.
Let alone my poor lap
At Idle, I get around 55-60 deg. C -

You fan must speed up at 90c and drop the temp to 80c , but you idle temp of 55-60c is quite high , what is you cpu usage at idle , do you have many background processes.
-
Yes, you're right I've got quite much background process, but the CPU usage usually still in the range of 10% and hardly pass 20%.
-
Tinderbox (UK) BAKED BEAN KING
10%-20% is enough to raise you cpu temp, but if you are happy with it fine, if not uninstall any that you do not need.
The free version of Glary Utils can advise you on which processes you do not need and you can stop them loading up.

EDIT : Also how long has it been since you cleaned out the fans and cooling system, they can get full of dust and reduce you cooling efficency, you can buy a can of air-duster, and blast the dust out. -
Nah, it's brand new,
Just got it few weeks ago,
And I'm kinda aware of every single process running on my system, so not a problem for me.
My question is, does 10-20% CPU load deserve a 50 degree c temp?
Oh my
-
I would heavily suggest getting it looked at then. It might be a lemon
-
but from some review I heard this thing is a bit warm than the others.
Guess I'm going to ask another T5010 owner with same spec and make sure whether mine is a real lemon or not. -
-
Those temps seem really high my CPU idles at 30 degrees and its a T8100 and what makes its temp go up is the GPU as they share the same heat sink so if you have a dedicated GPU check the temps for that. My load temps are still never go over 60.
-
No dedicated GPU, Intel integrated here, which is AFAIK known to be heat-friendly.
-
Nobody has asked the obvious: have you recently cleaned out the internals of the laptop for dust and other debris? If not, use a canister of compressed air and a vacuum cleaner.
-
i would recommend tune-up utilities 2009 as i have also used it and it is excellent. The only problem is that it is a 30 day trial and then you have to purchase it but you could always... cough..cough.. BTW i also got a T9400 and in a ambient temperature of 28-32 celcius, without my notebook cooling pad, its temperature is 50-60 celcius so i wouldn't be so worried if i were you. Use the undervolting guide and you should be ok.

I did the OP said he had only had his notebook a few weeks.
-
and btw your ambient temperature also more or less the same with mine.
Another question, how about the HDD temperature??
Is 50-ish temp considered normal??
Hmm.. ok Let's continue OOT talk.
I have tried Tune-Up Utilities, IMO it's too bloaty and I don't like the way it integrates with Windows (like many obtrusive entries on right-click menu), and it also includes some unnecessary component like Theme Manager (WindowBlind copy?). Though some really are useful, like the Registry editor.
Not as nightmarish as System Mechanic, though.
Anyone ever tried Yamicsoft * Manager ("*" Refers to your version of Windows). It packed most used Windows utilities.
And I assured it's worth the money, "cough cough" even worth more of course -
seriously, it depends on a cooling system of that particular notebook. My old system had even worse cooling than my current one and t7250 was always hovering at 55 idle, regardless of the thermal paste used. My current p8600 usually idles in mid-40 but easily goes up to mid-50 under some load like playing flash-videos etc (however, it shares the heatpipe with the gfx card, so i guess there is the reason).
Your HDD seems to be pretty hot, too -
I tend to leave my T61 on my bed all the time downloading files with CPU usage of 30~40% and CPU stays in the high 40's low 50's with CPU on power saver mode using RMClock with ambient temp of 30C maybe more. -
Need confirmation from other T5010 users who have identical processor with mine.
-
-
My hardrive nver has gone above 55 celcius and that was when i had no notebook cooling pad and was ocing my GPU and playing Call of Duty 4. Nowadays, my hard drive hits 47 at most. GPU always heats up to 80 when playing cod 4.
-
How about the CPU?
Tnx for ur reply -
something like 80-100 celcius. went to 101 celcius once so i couldn't take the heat problems and bought a notebook cooling pad.
-
@Sean, tnx a lot for your time.
Oh geez, 100 deg. Celcius, is that caused by design flaw or what? o_o
Mine will reach about 80 deg. C when playing games,
And 90 deg. C on Prime95 test.
Those are without any OC or dedicated GPU,
Others with P8600 processor reported they barely reach 60 deg. C..
Definitely something is wrong with my system.. -
send that laptop back ASAP and have it repaired or exchanged for a new one. No laptop cpu should be running at 70C and hitting 90C. ever.
there's clearly something wrong with the cooling solution, either fan or thermal paste. maybe both.
if it's that hot now, just imagine what we're talking about when it gets a little dust in it. thermal events are not far away.
RMA today if you haven't already. -
.
-
moral hazard Notebook Nobel Laureate
my guess is probably a bad thermal paste application. But it could be something worse
anyway good luck with that. -
i'd be worried about the HD instead of the cpu, but yeah, try undervolting
-
A 'normal' notebook should have be able to operate 'normally' without any user interference like undervolting.
And yeah, I know HDD temp. threshold is much much lower than CPU/GPU,
Actually, I'd prefer to return this thing & get a new one, but I don't think there'll be any RMA thingy in my country, where the consumer protection is ridiculously feeble. The best scenario is just getting my current product get fixed.. and waiting for another problem(well, since this is defective from the start)
I'm still going to d undervolting, after this issue fixed
Tnx guys for your advice & ur time.
Let see what they'll say about the cooling system.. -
-
-
Okay, took my T5010 to Fujitsu and they said I can take it tomorrow if the fix is possible to be done in one day (depends on the spare-part availability).
But it seems they are quite assured it won't take more than 1 day.
The Fujitsu techie said this is 'pretty unusual' and 'first time to be encountered'. -
94 Processes ? O_O
-
Umm.. I know that's a bit too much, but on my Desktop you can find I'm actually running 120 processes or more ~_^'
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Wow. Usually I idle with 24-25 processes after startup.
-
lol, I have 55 processes running now. With what you see on screenshot...
Running Vista x64
Windows Live Mail, MSN1, MSN2, Winamp (Playing), Auslogics BoostSpeed, LightScribe Software, Bluetooth, 3 Gadgets, Toshiba 1GB Flash Drive plugged in with U3 Software, Kaspersky Internet Security 2009, Winamp (agant), VeriSoft Access manager, ......
PS: This is not my Qosimo... -
Not much different with u, got about 25-30 start-up processes, that's after I disabled most useless Windows services and other bloatwares. -
I'm running Windows Explorer & Desktop on separate process, so every single Explorer windows contribute to one explorer.exe
I'm also kind of person that running 3 different browser at the same time (for web design testing purpose, plus PS, plus DW, plus outlook etc).
Btw, this thread has started to become completely OOThope mod won't mind
-
, let's cut it of here then
This is "standar", what I always run at this laptop.
Dubble msn and winamp is what I need to not bee boredBTW: rest of those starts up automaticly at startup
-
Holy crap thats a crap ton of tray icons.
It always makes me laugh when a friend of mine has me fix their computer because they say its slow.
I turn on their laptop and a bazillion progs start up and their tray icon is a bunch of random stuff. -
/(Becouse of those) -
OK, got my T5010 back from Fujitsu Service Center,
They said they've updated the BIOS version, and it seems the update did fix the problem. They also re-applied thermal paste.
My temperature now dropped to at least 10 deg. C lower.
So my idle temp is about 40-50 deg. C
Normal load at 50-60 deg. C
Full load at 60-70 deg. C.
I'm quite sure undervolting will do something even nicer on my notebook.
Again, tnx for your time, folks! -
now your temps are absolutely normal. Congrats! =)
-
The number of running processes don't matter, people. They've been steadily going up by themselves with each new release of Windows as the OS gets more complex and gains new features. Such a fact says little about system performance.
-
CPU Temperature, is this OK? :(
