Hi,
I pulled a 2.00 ghz pentium M processor from an old inspiron 6000 and I am trying to put it into my old Aopen 1557.
The cpu fits in the Eopen and the BIOS detects it as a 2.00 ghz processor running at 1500 Mhz (don't know why this is so).
However, when the bios screen disappears the computer shuts itself down.
Here is a picture of the two CPUs, the "new" one is on the right:

Here are details on the Aopen 1557:

If anyone can tell me why this isn't working I would greatly appreciate it!

The FSB (Front Side Bus) is probably running lower than it's supposed to (400 versus 533).
FSB 400 (100 x 4) with a multiplier of 15. 15 x 100 = 1500
FSB 533 (133 x 4) with a multiplier of 15. 15 x 133 = 1995
If your motherboard only supports FSB 400 max then your Pentium M (FSB 533) will run at FSB 400; causing the processor to run at 1500MHz instead of 2GHz. -
The 2.0 GHz runs at a FSB of 533 MHz. Looking at Aopen website shows you can max put in a 2.0 GHz processor with a FSB of 400 MHz.

This is the Pentium M 760 2GHz, 533MHz bus CPU you have: Intel Pentium M Centrino 760 2GHZ 533MHz 2M SL7SM - eBay (item 180608167040 end time Jan-08-11 13:45:40 PST) -
Thank you all for your replies. I guess I won't be upgrading the CPU after all. I think I'll just buy some new ram stick (2 x 1 gb) as it makes more sense for my needs.

You'd better check if your laptop's chipset supports 2x1 GB RAM. Not all do that.
