Hello. I am trying to fiqure out the best processor for upgrading my laptop. I want to invest in some upgrades to bring this laptop back to life. At least another year or two until I can afford to get a nice new imac pro. So does anyone know the difference between 478 and 479. Can you use a 478 Celeron M with this chipset.

My specs for this computer per PC Wizard 2008 is:
    Manufacturer : Acer Inc.
    Mainboard : Acer TravelMate 2300
    Chipset : Intel i852GM
    Processor : Intel Celeron M 330 @ 1400 MHz
    Frequency : 1400 MHz - (current : 1398.82 MHz)
    Support : Socket 479 mBGA
    Cache L1 : 64 KB
    Cache L2 : 512 KB

Help me please!! Thanks in advance..........

Its not worth upgrading in my opinion. I would buy a cheap dell out of the outlet (refurbed).

You’d be able to upgrade to a Pentium M class processor, but I too think spending money on such an old notebook is pointless. Look for an AMD X2 or entry level Intel Dual core used /refurbished notebook.

I would look into a pentium M 725 or so. It is a pretty decent processor. You can get them on ebay or hardforum for pretty cheap.
Look for any pentium M 7x5 processors. The 5 at the end means that it has a 400Mhz FSB, which is what your system uses.
The 7X0 processors have a 533Mhz FSB, which your system cannot use.

Thanks guys!! I too feel like this notebook is a bit old for upgrades, but right now it's cheaper to put in 2 gigs of new memory, find a 7200 hard drive, and a bit faster processor. I never have gamed on this laptop anyway because of the hard drive space being only 30 gigs. I would like too maybe but I don't know if the integrated graphics would handle it. Mostly I am a music listener, itunes movie watcher, and a huge streaming video nut. And right now this old notebook does great streaming on hulu and netflix. And thats at 54mb wireless rangemax Next card, 1.4mhz processor and 768mgs of PC2700 ram.

As for the Pentium M class?? I can go with any processor that starts with 7 so long as it ends in 5?? Is that the limit of my choices??
