I searched through the CPU sticky and could not find these listed:

Which is the better combination and why?

    AMD x2 RM-72 paired with 4GB ddr2 ram

    or

    Intel T5800 2ghz 800mh paired with 3GB pc-3

    Thanks for the help

Go with the intel as they make better cpus at the same clock speed compared to amd.

In general Intel mobile processors are the better bet right now. AMD processors tend to be a bit cheaper overall, but Intel chips have lower power consumption and better performance (at a given clock speed). The AMD configuration does have 4GB of memory, but memory is generally easy to upgrade whereas you cannot change your brand of processor.

    As mentioned, go with Intel.

I would go with AMD because they tend to have better graphics cards. People underestimate AMD. Sure intel is faster at top of the line but in mid range its not that big of a deal. And sure intel is " Faster " and maybe gets you 10 minutes more battery life but overall that AMD system will be faster up front your getting more ram and a better graphics card. Why bother getting the intel system for the minor benefit of the CPU. Most systems are slowed down by lack of ram and hard drive's anyways. What kind of hard drives do both systems have?

Most of the ATI graphics solutions (discrete at least) on the market right now are paired with Intel processors...?

As much as AMD would like to sell you the entire "platform", it just isn't happening these days...

Chances are with CPU's such as a t5800 and a turion RM-72 its Integrated and most intel systems come with intel GPU's

Whichever one is cheaper is better. Day to day tasks, you won't see a performance difference.

Intel has better chips at the moment in terms of performance and energy efficiency. AMD is cheaper for reason.

Conclusion, get Intel unless you want a cheap laptop above all else.
