This is rather odd, I've never seen CPU temperature not move even one degree. I ran 3dmark06 a couple of times hoping to see it get hotter but still, nothing. I attached a screen shot for you guys to take a look. Anyone know what's happening?

Oh and while checking CPU-Z, it seems like the CPUs are functioning properly because the core speed increases with more demanding tasks.

Some CPU's may have faulty tempsensors and be locked on a specific value. This should not affect performance or anything else of any kind though.

It's not an ES (Engineering Sample) chip is it? If it is they don't have temperature monitoring enabled. Only QS and above do.

No, it's not. It came in a brand new computer from HP. Here's a CPU-Z screenshot.

Looks like none of the temperatures (cpu, hdd, thm) are registering since the min, max, current are the same for all of them (minus one reading that is 1 degree different, but they should really vary a lot).

No the other temperatures fluctuate, you just see the same ones because I just turned on HWmonitor.

ahh, i guess you could try other temp software like coretemp or rmclock's temp sensor

I tried Everest but the sensors never changed either. In the long run though, is this anything to worry about? I really don't care as long as my CPUs function properly. Is there maybe some test I should run just to make sure that they're working correctly?

Still, it's kind of unsettling not be able to see my CPU temperature.

In my experience open your task manager and close any running instances of CPU-Z, then re-start HWMonitor. Sometimes CPU-Z will freeze my core temp readings in HWMonitor.

I tried that, and my CPU temperature jumped up a bit but it is still locked at a certain value with no fluctuation whatsoever.

Do you have the latest BIOS installed?

HWmonitor doesnt seem to be reading from the register properly.

Try leaving HWmonitor and putting your notebook to sleep and waking it back up. This weird method was used to show the correct temps before.

Actually, this is exactly why my CPU temperature went up! I just came back and restored my system from sleep mode and the temperatures were different, but still locked at one temperature. And I do have the latest BIOS installed. Would this just be an issue with HWmonitor and BIOS rather than the CPUs themselves? If so, then I won't be worrying about it as much.

No they are fine or else all other temps wouldnt freeze up.

Is the fans spinning up? Aslong as its the fans throttle faster when you put more load.

Yeah the fans spin when the system is under stress. The other temps don't freeze up by the way, it's only the CPU temps that are locked. But yeah I just restored my system from sleep mode again and the temperatures jumped to 37C but they're frozen at this temperature now.

Your cpu is doing the exact same thing my t5800 is doing in my dv7. The temperature wont read other then once upon boot up or wake up from sleep mode. Was your CPU pulled from a dv7 just curiouse?

No the CPU came with the stock system but it is a dv4. The computer is brand new from Circuit City, there were no modifications.
