Hi,
I have a Lenovo Thinkpad X60s (the less powerful but more battery life model) with the L2400 (Core Duo) 1.66Ghz CPU. I've heard that Core Duo and Core 2 Duo use the same socket M. I'm wondering if I can upgrade my laptop with the new Core 2 Duo (T5500 or T7200...etc)? And is there any official support for this type of upgrade from Lenovo? I wonder if anyone has done this before. And if anyone will foresee any problem with this upgrade. Thanks in advance!

I'm pretty sure the Low Voltage L2400 is soldered into the motherboard and therefore cannot be upgraded.

It may be that the processor is soldered to the motherboard, in which case an upgrade would be impossible. If there is a physical socket, then you may be able to upgrade to a Core 2 Duo. It will probably require a BIOS upgrade, however. On top of that, it will probably have to be replaced a "L" Core 2 Duo. They have not been released yet, so you will have to wait a while. Also, it may void your warranty.

The CPU on the x60s is soldered to the mainboard and therefore not upgradeable. As always, Lenovo is not gonna support a machine with a upgraded CPU. If you are looking for a performance boost, a faster hard drive and more memory are good candidates. Office and internet will be no faster on the C2D.
