    Hi
I currently have a Q9000 processor 2ghz 6mb cache and 1066mhz fsb and I am wondering if this is one of the best for the acer 8930g or is the t9400 better?

I have found some processors and I am wondering which is best overall value? I know very little about intel processors as I used to only use AMD ones.

    Quad core Q9100 QS/2.26G/12M/1066MHz/45W - £165

    X7900 OEM/SLA33/2.8G/4M/800MHz/ - £150

Intel® Core™2 Duo Mobile Processor Core Quad QX9300
    CPU Speed:2.53G

    Bus Speed:1066 MHz

    BUS/CORE Ratio:9.4

    L2 Cache Size:12M

    L2 Cahe Speed:2.53GHz

    Package Type: Micro-FCPGA

    Manufacturing:45nm

£320 - Probably more than I want to pay

    Intel® Core™2 Extreme Mobile Processor X9000 Q174 - £274

Would it be best to just stick with the one I already have? Or go for the
Quad core Q9100 QS/2.26G/12M/1066MHz/45W as it has slightly faster processor speed and double the cache size. I could probably sell my current processor for £100 too. Anyway which is best value for money out of those? Or are one of the T or P series better? What is the advantage / disadvantage of quad core? Shall I stick with quad core? Cheers

Don't go for anything dual core as your low speed quad core will smoke it in most cases. The extra cache of the Q9100 won't help you at all. If you really need more processing power, only the QX9300 is going to provide the oomph that you desire. The unlocked multiplier could help if you are able to cool it. The engineering samples can be found for $500 on Ebay. Even the Q9200 is only 20% faster than what you already have. Can be found Is your current processor not meeting your needs?

Maybe it is just windows 7 but the laptop is new and I am getting like 60-80% processor use just for firefox sometimes. I didnt think this would happen with this processor, I had it most of the time with my old toshiba laptop but this processor and laptop is a lot better.

I might just wait a year or so for the QX9300 to come down in price and go for one then, I think for now I get what I need. I was just annoyed at it going really slow and I hardly have anything running other than about 15 tabs on firefox, I normally have about 50 open lol

I have got a new hard drive for it and have 1000GB now so I think that will be enough for upgrading for now.

Is it possible to upgrade graphics cards in laptops? I want to try and keep this laptop for at least 3 years, I normally do not spend this much on a computer!!

Something is wrong with your computer then. My slower dual core processor can handle 50 tabs... and it depends on what laptop you have, but 99% of laptops you CANNOT upgrade the GPU. Stick with the Q9000, you probably need a fresh format...

Only just installed windows onto it. It can handle 100 tabs fine but now and then I get the processor saying its using 60 or 80% and not really doing anything demanding.

I think some of the drivers and support are not 100% for windows 7 yet so will wait until october to pass judgement.

I have 3d mark vantage but have no idea what to do with it, I put it on performance setting and the graphics test is like watching a slide show! The proper resolution for my laptop is 1920x1080 or something similar to that, it asks me to lower the resolution for tests, just dont know what to do with it really.

Don't worry about vantage. It is meant to strain top of the line desktop graphics systems, which are light years ahead of anything on a laptop.

k no probs, thought something was up with my system because it is a pretty high spec for a laptop and cost double what i normally would spend on a laptop too. I can play the games I want to play so I dont think ill be bothered about silly benchmark tests as long as the games work.
