I'm not super familar with Acers, but I'd say it's unlikely to work. It probably will depend on the chipset/BIOS. Even if it does work, you've got find a way to deal with the extra heat. The 5720 uses 35w CPUs while the Q9100 is a 45w CPU, which will run hotter. -
I don't think you can use a quad core in your laptop as it was never sold with one. As it stand the highest CPU you can put it without applying any mod is the T9500. If you want to mod your laptop (check link below for details) you can put an X9100 in it. I'm pretty sure it will work with the pin mod. Then you can overclock it to about 3.6GHz.

I actually tried a q9200 with pinmod in this notebook. Not the quad core socket mod obviously thats pretty crazy. Anyway it didn't work, you can't upgrade pm965 to quads easily.
