Hello,
I currently own a Samsung R710 laptop with a P7350 CPU.
I would like to change it for something more powerful like a P9700.
However I am confused about which socket my CPU is:
In CPU-Z it is marked as a Socket P (478 pin) (see imgur screenshots: CpuZ - Imgur)
However after disassembling the laptop it is written mPGA479m on the socket: imgur: the simple image sharer
So I am confused: which socket is actually my laptop compatible with and which CPU would be the fastest for this one?
Thanks for your help.

Intel shows the P7350 CPU as being BGA479 (soldered) or PGA478 (socket). I presume a 478 pin CPU can go into a socket with one extra hole (but it won't work the other way round).
There is a little discussion about the R710 in this thread.
You've done well if the GPU is still running fine: That was the generation of Nvidia GPUs that had packaging problems and vulnerable to an early death.

Ok, thanks a lot for your answers.
I am trying to find a used T9900 but I am a bit concerned since the original P7350 has a TDP of 25W and the T9900 is 35W.
Do you believe it is safe anyway to install the T9900? -
T9900 should work no problem even if it has a higher TDP - however, it will run hotter.
If possible, I'd opt for the P9700 though since it will definitely run cooler and you will be able to further undervolt it - but, if you want to go for the T9900, or T9600 even, make sure its a E0 revision (because those run much cooler). -
OP, might also want to get some good thermal paste like Gelic GC Extreme or IC Diamond to reduce the heating issues a bit..

Hello,
I bought and installed today a P9700.
Everything works correctly with my laptop and the CPU runs actually much colder than the P7350 that I had.
Probably because it is a newer revision.
I am very happy with the change.
