Hey All,
I have a toshiba laptop, Satellite 3000-214.
It comes originally with a PIII-M 933Mhz. (SL5CG)

I ordered on eBay a second hand SL5CK (1133Mhz) replacement CPU. (same number of pins, same family of CPU: RH80530)
When i fit it in, the laptop will boot, but there is nothing on screen and no HDD activity.
So i asked the seller if he had tested the CPU he sent, he said no and sent me 2 replacement CPUs, another SL5CG and a SL64Z (which doesn't show up on Intel's site for some strange reason but is of the same specs as the SL5CG..)

Both CPUs give the same result with nothing on screen and no HDD activity whatsoever.
I checked my BIOS, it's the latest version: 2.30.
Some laptops in the Satellite 3000 series (such as the 3000-601), are shipped with a 1133Mhz CPU (SL5CK) and also share the same exact bios as my 3000-214. (bios upgrades on the Toshiba site for my 214 & 601 are the exact same links and MD5 are equal.)
But for some reason, it doesn't work.
What could have I missed?
It is always possible that all 3 CPUs that I was sent by the seller are dead but it would be strange at this point I think.
So my question is, does anyone have any idea what I could try to make it work or have experience with upgrading a Satellite 3000 CPU?
Thanks a bunch for any info.
Regards,
TSR

Hi, I know a year has passed, but I just read your msg,
The core voltage is probalby the problem. The SL5CG (933/733Mhz) needs 1.5/1.15V and the SL5CK (1133/733Mhz) 1.4/1-1.15V. Refer to the site http://www.cpu-world.com/sspec/Mobile Pentium III-M.html.
Good luck. -
In fact it turned out ALL the cpus that the seller sent to me were DEAD :/
(he kept sending me replacements that were dead as well)
I ended up sending them all back and am now the happy owner of a working SL5CL (1.2Ghz) that i got from another ebay seller and it's working totally fine in place of the default SL5CG that came with the laptop.
The core voltage doesn't seem the problem at all on this toshiba t3000.
Been running the SL5CL for a few months now and never had any kind of problem/overheat.

Hello,
thanks for your mail. Am I glad your machine works. I just checked both cpu's have the same core voltages. So you've been lucky.
