Sup, i am planning to build a PC for me, but i am pretty confused between these two processors, so i like to know your opinions.
Which one you will choose and why ?

Although hardly any apps can utililse 4 cores, i'd go for the q6600 cos its more future proof, and very overclockable. tbh to give you a proper recommendation i need to know what sort of apps you use... photoshop? cad?

I gonna use this PC for my shop work, so i will do downloading, burning, surfing, little bit MMOR and CS gaming, may be sometime Photoshop, i love give try or learn new thing which i dont know, currently i am using P3 with 128 ram, its dam slow, so you can assume your self from what pain iam going through.
Thanking you. -
well, either will be a quantum leap in performance. However, if electricity and costs are important... an AMD phenom system might be a possibility. Phenom motherboards are generally cheaper and so are the processors. You don't sound like you do much intensive work anyway.
But of those two options, I'd personally get the core 2 quad and OC it OR get the dual core (or a cheaper one like the E7200) then buy a core 2 extreme QX9650 when prices drop in a year or two due to nehalem -
Good points, seem likes Q6600 wining here.
Thanking you. -
The q6600 is a great processor and you should take it over the e8400
the e8400 usually can be overclocked to around 3.6-4.0GHz, and the q660 is usually overclocked between 3.0 and 3.6Ghz.
For most programs the q6600 will dominate in, but in gming the e8400 will be better cause of its slightly higher clock speeds.
This thread should be in the desktop section, unless you are looking into the Clevo d901c /sager 9262
