i had this problem for a while with my compaq CQ70-211EM where the battery would not charge, i got this problem where is was showing as 'plugged in not charging' and i could never find a solution.

I bought a cheap replacement battery which died after a year, so this time i bought and oem one, much better but still the non charging problem, then i searched google and a new recent article i read said the 'plugged in not charging' can be related to an laptop getting too hot, which mine does, i have now realized my battery is stopping charging once the underside gets hot. If i let it cool it will fully charge.

so to make my new oem battery last i want to find a way of cooling my laptop better, it must be about 2-3 year old, when its charging or under heavy use the underside gets very hot, it sits on a laptop tray on my lap so its sitting on a hard flat surface but still gets very hot.

any suggestions how i can get this laptop to run cooler than it does

    cheers all :)

When it says plugged in not charging, what percent is the battery at? Most batteries won't charge when they are above 95% full, but if it's lower than that I guess you have a problem of some sort.
