Well I recall Intel saying they'd push back to October minimum to let the manufacturers sell out all their Montevina laptops so I suppose end of the year is a correct estimate at the earliest. There's still no official precise release date as far as I know.

HKEPC did report that tdp of quad core clarksfield is just 35w and not 45w/55w reported earlier. Though I am disappointed with the clockspeeds. If they can only have 2ghz quad core in late 2009 it is really bad.

I think they were dead set on the 35w quad core idea and having upcomming wicked fast/higher TDP extreme versions. I bet it was possible to have faster quads but the yield was not going to be as acceptable. The price per unit would not have needed to be higher. Remember Intel wanted to have a P9600 or P9400 or P8700 at montivinia launch but didn't. Yields not that desirable. Given what the market is, don't want to release something TOO good and have to heavily discount it. Really it makes a lot of sense. It may also be they do want to keep the dual core versions somewhat more useful for non-multithread or high multitasking stuff. Or just the speculation it is (how many threads have been here at NBR asking which is better for me "Dual Core or Slower Quad that then boil down to "well the quad should be faster for you but we don't have a lot of actual tests"). They have to have incentive for all those T9600's and other high end chips just sitting in warehouses if the whining from the OEM's is to be believed.

I'd be expecting Calpella laptops Q1 of 2010.

If you need a notebook now, get it now. If you don't, wait until you need it. Simple as that?

It is worth waiting for Calpella. Montevina is not a big upgrade, you will still have a 45nm cpu. Calpella will bring USB 3.0, Bluetooth 3.0, Sata 6GB, cheaper DDR3 ram, and of course 32nm dual core cpu's. It will be worth the wait.

Yeah Capella is pretty much a big deal (IMO) its a "true" upgrade.

Still waiting for higher than 2.0gHz quads, but other than that i'm in like flynn with capella.

Still cant believe the 35watt cpus though. 2.0ghz quad with a 35watt tdp is pretty nice.

Just how big of an ugprade is it going to be for mainstream users though? I feel like the current Montevina platform is already plenty strong, so I'm wondering what sorts of tangible improvements Capella will bring (noticeably cooler, thinner, and cheaper laptops with longer battery life would be nice though :D).

More powerful netbooks would be a plus too I guess.

Well, the quads on such a small manuf. process is very nice news indeed.
Increased battery life, less heat, and more performance really.

It is actually a truly large/decent upgrade that features much better technological innovations that Montevina had ... because Montevina was essentially a refresh of existing tech ... a rebrand with some minor improvements.
