It has been a long time since I was converting videos from my mini DV camcorder. It was a cumbersome process by using Firewire/IEEE 1394 and converting the clips to AVIs. I then manually inserted them on a timeline using video editing software. I used to read Videomaker Magazine and read all of the tips.

I haven't looked into newer camcorders such as Hard drive storage types. Does that simplify the process of making your own videos? Do they use USB 2 or still use firewire?
