    Can Core Solo/Duo Be Upgraded to Newer Processor coming out later this yr?

    Can Core Solo/Duo Be Upgraded to Newer Processor coming out later this yr?
    Just wondering if the new proccesors will be able to be fixed into a laptop with core solo/duo processor?

    No, it's a new chipset that'll be used as well so just no way you'll be able to do this.

    As Abaxter has mentioned, the processors will use a newer chipset, which is not compatible with the processors. Also, the newer processors will use a new socket, which also doesn't support the new processors.

    You can only update to the current Core Duo/Core 2 Duo processors, which are Socket M. The updated Core 2 Duos that are coming with the Santa Rosa Centrino Pro platform will use Socket P.

    You also need a BIOS update in order for the motherboard to recognize Core 2 Duos.

    Well that would mainly depend on when the laptop is bought. I got mine at christmas and it already came with a bios that supports Core 2 Duo.

    But yeah most laptops purchased last year will need a bios update (if there is one available).
