I have an HP Pavillion DV5000 with a 120 GB Hard drive and Im thinking about replacing it with this 320GB hard drive i found...
Western Digital Scorpio WD3200BEVT 320GB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Notebook Hard Drive
But I've never done anything like this and I have a couple questions:...Firstly, can i do this myself? I dont have expereince with this but im a pretty capable person generaly and good with fixing things...And secondly...if I do Im assuming I will lose all my major applications that came with my computer like Windows, CD burning software, etc. etc. Is that right? And if so is there any way to do this so that i dont lose all that? Thanks in advance for your answers....

The dv5000 hard drive uses an ide connector not SATA so you'll need to get one like this. Changing the drive is easy. Take the panel off. It's on the bottom. There's a picture here. Pop the drive out. HP uses an adapter on the end of the drive which you'll have to take off and put on the new drive. Then put it back in.
Your HP should have included a XP disc and a drivers/apps disc. You'll have to use those to reinstall Windows and your drivers/apps. If you don't have them you can contact HP. They'll probably send you a new set. They may charge a fee. I don't what they're doing right now.
Can I Replace an HP Pavillion Harddrive with a new bigger one?
