I own a Compaq Presario CQ50 108CA with AMD Athlon X2 QL-60 CPU, The service manual lists the Turion Ultra X2 ZM-82 as a compatable CPU. I have spoken with an HP tech who said I could upgrade to the Turion Ultra ZM82 but I am curious.
Can I put the ZM-82 in my notebook ?

If the tech said you could, then most likely you can.
As long as it's not soldered to the motherboard you're fine.

Both are using the same socket and based on the same 65nm Lion architecture, besides if HP said you can, then most likely you can.
But going from 1900MHz/1MB to 2200MHz/2MB will not give you a significant performance improvement, especially for normal computing tasks. Considering the price, hassle of disassembling the notebook and potential warranty issues, I really don’t see it as a worthy upgrade.
Care to tell us more about why you are looking for a CPU upgrade ?
Do you already have enough RAM (~4GB) and a fast HDD (7200RPM) ?? because those would give a better performance boost at a less cost and hassle.
