    Hi,

I wonder what ram is suitable for my Compaq v3000z, currently I have 2x256 but I'm planning to buy 2x1024, couse now I get freezed all the time.

Do I have to buy SDRAM or does my notebook support DDR2?

    Regards,
    Majo

It uses 667MHz DDR2 memory and supports up to 2GB. SO yes, you should be DDR2 memory and not regular SDRAM (which is completely archaic and has been out of mainstream use for years).

What do you mean when you say "you get freezed all the time"?

I'm let's say running couple of applications, and my ram gets fulled up pretty quickly (firefox uses 110-130 megs), also my video card shares memory with ram..

My mouse stops moving, nothing is responding and the only thing that works is Winamp (it plays music, can't switch to it).

I've got another problem with the booting of the system.
Usually when I boot the laptop up, it doesn't detect hard drive, I've talked to some people and they say it's probably hard drive controller chip (don't know if I translated it well). So avarage start up takes approximately 15 minutes.. (I have to reset it until it detects the hard drive).
But this problem will have to wait - I don't have money to fix it.

I highly doubt this is a problem with memory but with something more sinister. Sounds like you might be having a good old fashioned hard drive failure (if it IS a hardware problem, which it probably is); that could explain the both the freezing and the undetected drive. I doubt its the controller chip; those things don't tend to break/fry very easily.

Have an extra drive you could test with?

Well, I've inserted my hard drive to another notebook and it worked absolutely fine.
