I am about to buy finally my first SSD online, and my laptop support only SATA II drives.

I would like to buy anyway a Crucial M4 SATA III SSD since I have read all over the forum that it's one of the best drive right now, and it might be useful in the future If I will buy a new laptop that will support SATA III, even thus I know I won't use all its speed since I have only a SATA II connection, (I would use it only for my OS by the way).

    Here the deal online:

    My question is:

Can I actually install a SATA III SSD on my laptop? (see specs in my signature) Would it be any issue with the port for any reason?

Thanks in advance for all your suggestions.

Yea, you can install it with no problem, your sequential speeds (which matter less than randoms anyway which will still be very good on SATA 2) will of course be lower, but the drive will still perform fine.

While the SATAIII vs. the SATAII connection will pose no problems (they are physically and 100% compatible), there are other ongoing issues with the M4's that are more important to be aware of and that still haven't been fixed for all users of the M4's.

A one-off issue, a strange one to be sure. Just about everyone I have seen comment on the M4 here and in other places absolutely loves it and has no issues since FW 0002. Yes, there are a few oddball cases floating about. This is true of every SSD on the market, just some have way more issues than others (Sandforce...).

    Seems firmware was at 0002?

Either way, still too many issues to be recommending an M4 for me.
