OK guys, here is the problem. I've been searching a lot around the web and it seems that Acer Aspire 5920G refuses to run 9600GT. It's very strange, since I can't see where is the problem. It have just a bit higher TDP (compared to 8600GT), but I don't think that that is the problem. Maybe Acer are modified the BIOS to refuse 96XX cards, in order to sell their others, more powerful and of course, more expensive laps. Just maybe, but who knows, maybe I'm right. So is there a way to see am I right, or am I wrong? Thank you in advance :)

There is only one way to edit the Bios, and that is to learn how to code for the Bios. It is very risky, and could potentially brick your laptop.
You can try sending an email to "Biosman" and see if they can help you.
They are professionals, but even they can make mistakes.

Maybe you could modified the 9600 so it's seen as a 8600, I know of some scammer on ebay that was doing similar to desktop cards.

But if I do that, will be there a performance drop? If yes, with how much?

Can't see why it would, do you think it would run better if you changed it to a 9800 GTX? All you want to do is to make it recognized as different not make it different.

SPQR, to do that you need to flash the firmware of the graphics card. That is a very dangerous act, and can only be done when the cards are very similar. Unfortunatley you need a system which recognizes the 9600mGt in order to flash it to the firmware for the 8600mGt.
Their is a lot of potential here with destroying everything for very small performance gains.

What would you risk, your laptop or your card?

Anyway I didn't say it could be done, I said I know what has been done. It couldn't hurt to look into it! It might work and then again it might just be an impossible idea.

If it works, it works. If it doesnt you flashed your graphics card with the wrong firmware, bricking the graphics card. Once this is done the graphics card can no longer be used ---> i.e, it cant be fixed or reflashed

Your suggesting it to the original poster, so if he went and flashed his gpu without knowing that he could kill his graphics card, he would be extremely mad at you

Can't you read! No where did I say it would work! I said (it's worth looking into)

It's up to him how he uses this information. He might mess with his laptops bios and brick it. What would you have to say then?

If it doesn't work with the new firmware, you could always do a blind flash back to the original one (or the better option, put the GPU in a system that can take 2x GPU's just to see what's happening while you flash your flash-failed card). I've made a misstake once flashing my video card, something went wrong so i couldn't see what was happening anymore, it went black and unusable. But there was a very easy way to change it back luckily, though the failed flashing. So no, you wouldn't end up with a GPU that can't be used. I'm talking of own experience, so i know it won't be a problem even if the flash fails and you can't see .
