Notes: Please post, I don't have a bunch of money and I REALLY want some new speakers. I don't want to buy the wrong type. If possible, would i hook up the audio cables through the output jacks that have headphones on them? There are two, I know im uber noob!
-
-
AFAIK you can hook up those speakers to your laptop; the only thing is whether or not your laptop can drive a surround sound system, but I think it probably can...
-
Any other suggestions?
-
Hate to double post but please help!!
-
holy ****ing **** pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee help, I dont have money to waste, you guys were a lotta help when i got this laptop

Anyhow to answer your question. The creative T7800 looks to be a analog system that would required 3 analog stereo 3.5mm jacks (green, orange, black), so in other words no this won't work with 5.1 surround without an expressCard addon or USB sound card. Does not have to be Creative brand though, all just examples.
The other option is buying Digital speakers and connecting via Toslink/Optical which will enable 5.1 audio right from the laptop. However, Digital 5.1 speakers are quite expensive. -
There is an edit button, btw.
-
how exactly would i hook up those speakers you were talking about
-
you cannot connect a 5.1 or 7.1 system directly to the laptop. The dv6000z does not have an S/PDIF or optical audio output. You need to cash out an extra $50 or so on an external sound card, such as the Creative Audigy Sound Blaster.
http://uk.europe.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=1&subcategory=208&product=16642
That will slot into the express card slot, and replace your existing internal sound card. It will have an optical audio output. You use a digital optical audio cable to connect the speakers to the sound card, and you can use the easy controls in the included software bundle to fiddle around with settings until it sounds right.
If you want to use the built in internal two audio jacks, you can only hook up stereo (two speaker) or 4.1 (4 speakers + subwoofer) systems. You cannot hook up a surround sound system without buying an external sound card.
So, again, you need to buy an Audigy Sound Blaster to be able to use a 5.1 or 7.1 speaker system.
Hope this helps,
Mayur. -
But the altec lansing will work?
-
Yes, but quite pricey
(actually the price on amazon looks ok) I own a 4.1 Cambridge Soundworks PCworks system
refurb $30, works great! Love them! Last forever! hehehe other wise I'd recommend Creative or Logitech.

-
idc about surround sound though. I just want some decent speaekers that can play my music and stuff..

I upgraded to another pair of altec lansing with better review for 25 more dollars and it is another 2:1 speaker system.

in a few days/weeks time, i will buy the HP Compaq 6820s laptop, which has the standard headphone audio-ouput. to that, i want to connect my Creative 4.1 4400 sound system .... how exactly do i do that?
currently, im able to change the volume of all my 4 speakers independently on my desktop pc, via a little software program which comes with the sound card driver.
will this option still be possible in the laptop (of course, after ive installed the driver with the program)?
thnx in advance for replying
PS: my sound system 'works' as follows; there are 2 standard plugs which go directly from my pc to the subwoofer of the sound system (the 2 plugs are green and black. one is for 'front', the other for 'rear'). from here, the subwoofer has 4 outputs, namely 1 for each connection/speaker -
My set up is actually 100% the same, but with different speakers lol! Ok, what I did was went and bought a external soundcard, a so and so creative one...and several audiophiles on here will call creative stuff crap...lol...
I have the SB Live! 24-bit external USB...and it can give me 4.1 sound...me is happy with itAnd yes the software that comes with it will allow you to change volume for individual speakers. There are other USB options out there...
But here is mine just so you can get an idea! http://www.amazon.com/Creative-Labs-SoundBlaster-24-Bit-External/dp/B00030099O/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1206190002&sr=8-2

what i actually wanted to know is HOW (as mayur told) one can connect a 4.1 system to a laptop, without the use of external sound cards etc.
only by usage of some additional cables (e.g. a 3.5 mm stereo male jack to 2 x 3.5mm jack male), so i can my current sound system to my new laptop, without having to buy additional stuff. in that way, i can first see how the sound is. if i dont like it, i can always buy an external sound card
i also dont really a lot 4.1 programmes/music players, only the weekly episodes of lost 4.1 i think ... but still, my configuration doesnt really help to hear the 4.1 sound -
Actually I have got a much older Compaq LOL!
But yeah, you can get sound from all 4 speakers, but not surround sound or anything like that. just plug (oh i cant actually remember) the green one into the notebook, and the other 2 (to plug into the bass), into the bass...you should get sound from all 4 speakers...basically now you have got a 2.1 system with 2 speakers on the left and 2 on the right lol.
I just checked the spec of your notebook, and by the looks of it you do not have an optical out. So thats out of the question.
Can I hook these speakers up to my laptop?
