Hi, I'm wondering if there is a way to hook up my PS2 to my Vostro 1500. I don't want to lug my TV around where I'll be going, and my notebook screen seems to be a compact alternative. What connections, etc would I need and how much would it cost me? Thanks in advance for your input!

    ~Tony

If you have a TV tuner you can. The last TV tuner I used had rca inputs but most that I have seen only have a coaxial input.

    Yes,

Several brand of 'TV Tuner' cards have a Video/Audio in sockets. ala Yello, Red, White plugs. Often it's another socket on the card/adapter with a small patch lead, and/or S-Video - which Sony can do if used with a PS2 S-Video lead too.

I chose mine on this basis too, and also wanted fm radio, analog & digital tv in one.

I found that the AverTV cards do all the above, and work with VistaMCE. Without knowing off hand which expansion slot your laptop has, ie pcmcia, or express 32/54..etc, but I think they make one for all slots.

I paid $US100, cheap for everything.

    Ebay is your friend.

I think most usb tv tuners come with rca/s-video output, just get the VisionTek TV Wonder HD 600 USB for example.

Thanks for the suggestions! I'm pretty unfamiliar to all this... I have a Vostro 1500, which has an express card slot. What is 32/54, and how do I know which one I have (or are they both the same)? I figure I may need like a video/audio-in jack or something on the notebook itself... Is a TV tuner card all I need? If so, I suppose I'll give Ebay a shot. Sorry for the nubbish questions, and thanks for your help!

    Hi Tony,

Express card is a little odd having 'two' sizes, but functionally identical.
32mm wide, 54mm wide... funny thing is the 54mm cards are more a fat L shape.

They are PCI Express 1x in a custom slot. PCI Express x1 is often found internally in laptops too, but a different socket again, and usually filled with a wireless networking card and/or Turbo Cache.

Anyway, you can use a narrow card in the wide slot (32in54mm), but obviously not the other way around. But that setup gets wonky.

Yes a TV tuner card, with specific AV input (ie Red/Yello/White...PS2's, VCRs, etc) will plug in and is everything you need.

Remember, Slim PS2's have external 7.5V DCinput, so youcould easily fashion an RC Radio battery to power it, fully mobile then!..... :D

Not ALL Tuner cards have the extra inputs- so read the fine print. Best of luck.

well for just ps2 since it only has composite and svideo outputs, i'd get the adaptec gamebridge tv tuner thingy. It's usb powered and costs like 20$
