I have an inspiron 9300 and the graphic card geforce go 6800 is dead. It is too expensive and is worthless to buy a new geforce go 6800. So I thinking to install a very low-cost graphic card like geforce go 6200, is this possible? and how to do this?
thanks alot for reply!

Your only options for that laptop are the x300, 6800go, 6800 ultra, and 7800gtx. You can only install dell format video cards that are designed specifically for the Inspiron 9300 (or the XPS Gen2/M170 which happen to have similer motherboards)

Yeah, the Radeon X300 (64 or 128 versions) should be the low-cost cards here.
And that's how to do it...

I contacted dell at my region already, they said no more stock for X300
actually I am planning to buy new laptop, but I don't want to waste this laptop where all other parts still running great. currently my 9300 only can use default graphic driver vga.dll. which only support up to 1024x768 for my 1440x900 widescreen and refresh rate only 1Hz! ><" I don't plan to play game on this laptop anymore, but at least install a very low cost card for normal use.
I am thinking is there any custom made default vga driver that support 1440x900 and 60Hz? -
You can try Ebay for the graphics card, probably you will find it there.
-
by the way: how can be your vga dead??? is it too much OC?
-
With a working graphics card, even the failsafe Windows driver should deliver 60 Hertz on the monitor. The windows will move quite choppily (in XP at least), but you ought to get more than one refresh per second! I've ran vgasafe (the failsafe) in both Vista and XP, and it shouldn't be that bad! I think you've pinpointed the problem in the graphics card.
How much does Dell want for an 6800, or do they even have them? If it's signficantly less than the cost of a replacement it might be worth it. EBay may help, too, there's probably someone out there who had their processor/motherboard/something other than graphics break on this model and decided to sell it for parts. -
Dell want around $300 for this old card
well geforce go 6800 is a high end card, but it has heat issue where DELL downclock it from 350MHz to 190MHz only. Own a new 8600GT will double the performance of 6800.
I am thinking re-use my laptop component as desktop system, can it be done? any 1 had done this before? I also wonder any method can fit desktop graphic card plug into current laptop motherboard after moved to desktop? -
Well, there is something common to all "can I upgrage my notebook video card" threads: they tend to degenerate and turn into nonsense pretty quickly...
Can I install other graphic card into my inspiron 9300
