Well, I plan on buying a dell e1705 kind of soon, but want to keep costs down. RAM from dell is an insane price, so I think I just get the 512MB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz that is default then buy a gig stick of DDR2 at 667mhz and putting that in. But I was just wondering, is there enough room to leave the 512 stick in AND put the gig stick in? If so will it work since there at two different speeds? Just thinking of ways to increase my bang/buck ratio.

It has 2 dimms, so that 512 you are getting will be two 256 sticks. You can then buy a gig and replace one of them, however I believe if you have two different speeds of RAM it will only run at the lower of the two. If you can configure it to one DIMM of 512 I would definitely do that and then buy a gig off newegg etc

Ahhh...didn't even think of that. Yeah, I don't think I can...but...if it runs at the lower speed, it would sort of be a waist. Maybe I'll just spend the extra money and save myself the bull ****.

why not pay the extra for 667 and just get a gig? it will probably run around the same price in the long run....533 is by no means a slouch also.

Thats what I meant when I said spend the extra money, but, the way I said it I see how you took it. Does anyone know if the graphics memory for the 7800 on the dell e1705 (or 9400, depending on which ends up being cheaper) is dedicated or that hypermemory stuff.
