    Hi all,

When I first got my Dell Inspiron 1420 I chose to get the 8400M GS dedicated graphics card installed as I planned to use it for gaming when I didn't have my main PC available.

However 6 months later I've never really used it for gaming as I've always taken my main PC to lans which is much much more powerfull and I've put Ubuntu on the laptop and I now prefer it for internet/email/IM/office stuff so I don't really need the dedicated graphics anymore.

So my question is, is it possible to move the 8400M GS module (if it is a module) and activate the integrated graphics (if they're still there)?

    thanks very much.

You don't have an integrated card. If you really want, you can disable your GPU in the device manager and rely on your processor. No point whatsoever to do that, but if it floats your boat, have a go at it.

You will be able to remove the 8400M GS, but your motherboard will not have integrated graphics.
You either have one or the other, never both.
The 8400MGS is removable, cause if it breaks, it can be replaced for much less than it would be if it was physically soldered to the motherboard.

    Sorry man,

You could try swapping MoBo. Maybe trade with a member with same notebook with X3100. But that seems extreme maybe just trade notebooks.

Thanks for the responses guys, I think I might just wait till I upgrade to another notebook or I come across someone who wants to swap for something I like.

    Cheers,
