I bought my dell inspiron with the minimum 512 ram of 533 because my duo core 2 can support 677 and thats what i want. Can i run a gig of 677 and the 512 of 533 ram and get full output on both pieces of memory.

Will the memory drop to the lower of the two and run both chips at 533 or will it not work at all?

Yes...but both sticks will run at the slower speed (533MHz).

You might also lose dual channel mode, but I do not know for sure.

To get 667 and Dual Channel, you'll need to purchase two identical 667MHz sticks to get it. Two non identical 667 chips will get you the 677 but not Dual Channel.

The memory speed will clock down to match the slowest module as stated. It will be dual-channel since you have two sticks installed, although dual-channel really does not do much for the Core (2) Duo's performance.

Basicly what the other guys said. You can, but they will run at the speed and timings of the slowest stick. It will not be dual channel since the timings and speed are different.

I am about to purchase a dell xps 1210 and it uses dual channel and is 2 dimenisions. And is upgradeable to 4 gb of ram. Would it be possible to add another 1 gb of ram with 2 dimmensions as long as they are both at 667 mhz. would it still be dual channel. Or does this even make sense.
