The patient is a Lenovo Ideapad Y510 notebook with T2330 (1.6Ghz).
Can anyone tell me with certainty that a T9300 will drop into the Socket p and come up running? I have installed the latest BIOS (dated 3/31/2008) and have 4Gb of G-Tech PC-5300 667Mhz RAM already installed and working quite well. I'd like more speed - but not if it requires a crap-shoot gamble to see if the T9300 _might_ work in this machine.
If this is a straight forward cpu swap I can handle it and am excited to do it. But if this upgrade will likely involve extensive work trying to patch the bios or other extraneous changes to make it work then I'm not quite desperate enough to gamble that much hard earned money on the upgrade.
Yes - I have read _numerous_ accounts of successful transplants of cpus on _other_ Lenovo ThinkPad models. But there is not a lot of upgrade information to be found on this relative newcomer to the Lenovo product line. I know for certain that Lenovo isn't supportive of such experimentation.
No need for anyone to advise me that this is not the wisest $300 I could put into a notebook. If that is your perspective, I certainly respect it. As I would hope you'd respect my desire to grab 2.5 Ghz if I can get it!![]()

what chipset do you have?If its GM965/PM965,you have a good chance, here in Australia Lenovo have 3 Ideapad Y510
Y510-100 with T5450
Y510-200 with T8300
Y510-300 with T9300 -
Yep, you can. There use the same sockets.

You can upgrade the processor, you may just have to flash the bios to the newest version.
What harddrive do you have in your laptop?
If its a 120gb 5400rpm drive or smaller, I would recommen upgrading to a high density 5400rpm drive, as it will help speed up your system as much if not more than a new processor upgrade.

Can laptops with Ati and nVidia chipsets also be upgraded to the latest T8000 and T9000 CPU series?
Thanks -

My USA purchased Y510 has the GM965 chipset. It came with a Hitachi 250Gb 5400 rpm drive.
Am placing my order for a T9300 today! Concensus seems to be that it should work - and I figure somebody in the eBay world will take this puppy off my hands if for some reason it doesn't work out for me.
It isn't as if I NEED the extra speed. Its just that I WANT more speed!
Seriously, the T2330 Y510 is much quicker than I'd have predicted - especially with Vista Home Premium installed. And for an old DOS hack like myself to be impressed by a Windows OS is saying something. Vista does like to have a LOT of memory. And I'm betting another $325 (on the T9300) that it likes cpu clock speed too! -
t2330 is socket p, it's part of the santa rosa platform. Plus, all GM965/PM965 are socket p chipsets.
that would be a noticable upgrade definitely. Go for it.
Can I simply replace the T2330 with a T9300?
