    Hi,

I have a Dell XPS m1530 with t5550 (1.83GHZ), though it handles most games and applications fine, it performs miserably when I play Mass Effect and Crysis on it...

So I've been thinking about upgrading CPU, like the t8300 or even t9300...

Now I've heard that all m1530s use the same motherboard/socket so I will be able to upgrade.

However, Dell tech chat ppl told me that I can't and the best I can do is t5850.

I'm more inclined to listen to Dell ppl...but they don't know everything either..

So...any input will be nice and kindly appreciated!

    Thanks, and happy thanksgiving!

You can use the 800MHz FSB Penryns (probably with a BIOS update), but not the 1066MHz FSB chips.

Ranilus, what video card do you have? Because that has a greater effect on performance than processor.

He hopefully has the 256MB GDDR3 GeForce 8600M GT.

And yes, the Penryn processors T8100,T8300, T9300, and T9500 are compatible. Just open the system, smear on some new thermal compound on the CPU (and the GPU if you have to remove its heatsink to get to the CPU), put it all back together and watch it work!
