I've DELL 640m with the 7200 chipset. I want to upgrade the RAM from 2 to 4GB. Does anyone knows if it's gonna work?

I'm also looking for a good online marketplace in EU where I can buy the memory units. Any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance,
    bobojr

Did you read the Owner's Manual?

    Page 158 contains:

Where to buy? Komplett ships to most of Europe. This is the Komplett UK memory page. Or you can go direct to Crucial. Or visit Memory Configurator, select t his 4GB pair and chose your own country.

OK. 32 bit Windows can only see 3.24GB RAM (however, I think that the RAM used by the integrated GPU is extra to that, so effectively you may get to use about 3.5GB). Has anyone checked?

Yes it is a good large company. They were the first to get validation on DDR3 DRAM from Intel. They are headquartered in Korea.

You don't really give much info on the RAM you are buying, does it have a number like PC4200 or PC5300. Brand is less important than people sometimes like to make it. For the most part it works or it doesn't and that includes speed, it operates as it is designed. Brand names people have heard of do not operate faster. Just make sure to buy from a retailer who has a good return policy and warranty (lifetime is good).

All these would be good Samsung is the worlds largest memory chip manufacturer, Corsair is a name brand and Hynix I already commented on. The price and warranty is all I would care about, all three are good products I like none any better than another.

    My RAM is Samsung.

Please note that in the owners' manual above, in the technical specifications on the Dell website, and in the optional components that can be ordered for an 640m, the maximum memory supported is given as 2 GB in total, not 2 GB per slot.

In my interpretation that means that as far as Dell is concerned, You can only put 2 x 1 GB RAM into the machine.

Not saying that it won't work with 2 x 2 GB (I have no idea), but I think the company's specifications are pretty clear.
