I think the fastes that the P3-M got to was 1.3GHz, but it is not worth upgrading for that little extra speed. Not that those CPUs are easy to find anymore.

You cannot use any other type of CPU with the laptop you have. It only supports P3

yeah, you're kinda stuck there. besides, with the cost of upgrading a cpu versus how inexpensive a new notebook is, you'd be better off just buying a new computer.

Yeah... I did a little googling for prices on P3-M's and they are NOT cheap... I could probably sell this laptop, add the difference I would have paid for the CPU (maybe add a little more) and get a new nicer laptop. :(

Pitty.... I dug out the box for this thing which was originally my wife's, and we paid over $2200 for it in 2002. Now it worth --- lets just say considerably less.

For what the actual resale value is, I'm better off keeping it just as a web surfer on my side of the bed for late at night! (no porno jokes please :p)

you could check ebay to see how much simillar laptops go for these days. See if it is worth selling.

I usually don't like to sell my computers and laptops. I love my babies too much to give them away :p

See, the laptop was bought for my wife... it was her first pc of her own - back in 2002, now she has a dedicated desktop too - but thats another story. Anyway: at the time, $2200 was premium price for what was at the time, a premium laptop. (at least i thought it was). She wanted it, and married fellas chime in here, when she wants it - she gets it.

Anyway: the screen died about a year or so ago.. I was given prices of around $200+ to fix the screen, and didn't want to invest $200 in a 3+ year old laptop, since the prices pretty much fell thru the floor almost immediately after we bought this one.... so it sat. and sat. and sat some more. Well, she started wanting another laptop again - so for Mothers day we (the kids bought using my money  ) got her a 17" HP ZD8215, so at that point I decided if I can fix the old one on my own - great, if not - its already broke anyways. SOOOO after ordering a $49 inverter from ebay, downloaded the service manual - took the little sucker apart and fixed it in about 5-10 minutes  I dont mind telling all of you - I was pretty disapointed in myself at that point - for waiting so long to even try and fix this one. So I thought, well I'll sell the old laptop to help pay for the new one... did exactly what was just suggested above - went thru ebay to see what similiar laptops go for, and its about $400'ish. So I re-installed a nice fresh copy of XP, put on a bunch of must-have apps - and decided I'd sell it with the old laptop bag and all (it wont fit the new 17" monster anyway).

But no takers yet... and honestly before I sold it for LESS than $400 - I'd sooner use it at night (like right now) to surf the web in bed before sleep time.... You can't marry this kind of stuff, it depreciates to quickly - and this old laptop just sat too long not being used. :( so I might be married to it at this point.
