I wanted the cheaper xps models but Dell discontinued it  . But on their outlet they still have some but they only have the pentium M processor and I wanted the core duo. If I buy the xps with the pentium m how much would it be to buy an intel core duo and around how much would installation be?

I don't think its possible, they are totally different, you need a different motherboard, etc.

You can only upgrade processors within the same socket style and family. So you will be unable to upgrade from a Pentium M to a Core Duo. You will only be able to upgrade to a faster Pentium M.

I heard that you will be able to upgrade form the current Core Duo to the Core Duo 2 or Memron. Is this true? Cause if the new Memron doesn't come out before I need my laptop, I would like to get the Core Duo and upgrade later.

I have heard that as well, and while it is possible (even likely) that that is the case, no one can really know for sure until Intel confirms or denies that, which hasn't happened yet (to my knowledge).
