Can I upgrade some parts of my laptop?

I wonder if I can upgrade my laptop buying parts such as CPU, graphics card and even the hard drive, etc. ... in order to improve the performance of my computer for gaming. I know already before the graphics card was changed.

a hinge right of my computer is split in two so I can not close my screen and I have no idea if they can fix it.

You can replace your CPU, but there aren't really any faster compatible chips next to the T9500 and maybe X9000.

The GPU is probably on an MXM card, but I don't know what's available in that space.

You can upgrade your hard drive to any SATA device. I would definitely recommend getting an SSD if you don't already have one.

Nothing but your graphics card is going to have any significant affect on gaming.

 

I think since your current CPU is a T series, core 2 duo mobile, the highest you can go is a an x9000 core 2 extreme dual core. The core 2 quads were Penryns, which will not be compatible with your motherboard. As for your GPU, I believe that card is an MXM 2.1 and you may only be able to go up to a 9800 GTX or possibly an 280-285m since they are essentially the same chip, but I think the 9800m GTX would be your limit. As for the hard drives, chances are you can upgrade to a SATA II SSD.

 

firstly congrats on having a working 8800GTX after all this time. that has to be almost a record in itself.

i had the next model to the M57ru which was the M860TU
gpu wise i think you have the option (if you can find them) of a downgrade to 9800GTS, upgrade to the dreadded 9800GT (hundreds died after a couple of years), or the 260GTX and i think the 280GTX but not 100% on this last one.

Actually SATA III drives are backwards compatible with SATA II so those SSD drives will work as well. You will see little to no real world usage difference because the interface is only SATA II but synthetic benchmarks may show a difference. Now There are a few other upgrades too.

The CPU can go to x9000, not too sure how much this will help out as that 800mhz fsb can be a bit of a limit.

Edit; beware though between the costs of a SSD, New GPU, New CPU and ram you could be well on your way to a new laptop cost wise. For gaming the GPU and CPU are the essentials as right now they are the limiting factors.

 

I would say if anything, upgrade the GPU to the max. I haven't yet seen a 1500 dollar gaming laptop with like a 780M and an i3 or i5. Most of the time, the offered quad core will be more than enough, the GPU being the biggest bottleneck. The CPU isn't too horribly expensive to upgrade later vs MXM 3.0B GPU's ($$$$$$$$$$$$$$$).
