I'm currently awaiting a Dell Inspiron E1505 from Dell Outlet containing a 128MB ATI Radeon X1300 video card but it has occurred to me that I may need slightly faster video card for games like Battlefield 1942, The Sims 2, Trainz 2006, Need For Speed: Carbon, etc.. and I did read the sticky above but after searching the forums, I've found conflicting responses. The sticky above says you can't while it appears that you can upgrade the X1300 to the X1400 in the E1505. Is this possible?

The X1300 is enough for all the games you listed.

Yes, but the overall 'boost' may not be worth it, but if you can find it, check with Dell about the upgrading process if you do decide to go with it.

Not really, I would suggest at least an X1400 for maximum playability.

I can max out all those games on my X1600, so I imagine at X1400 would be able to pull medium settings, while an x1300 would only be able to pull low-medium.

x1300 to x1400 is a viable upgrade path.

you may want to review benchmarks for the respective cards to see if the $ is worth the performance

Does Dell use actual desktop style cards or MXM modules?

It's a proprietary upgrading system, only Dell their systems can up to a certain point.

I too have a Dell e1505 and I would like to upgrade it's video. The trouble is, it has a 945GM Express Chipset for video. Can I purchase an x1400 for it as an upgrade?

If you bought it with GMA 950 you CANNOT upgrade. (different motherboards).

A different motherboard? But it's the same model: E1505? You've got be kidding me. So the Intel 945GM is it? What about the Express card slot? Anyone out there developing a video card for it, or is it just too slow to process video?

Drumfu you think the worst of us huddled masses...

LS_ATL you're out of luck if you have one of those integrated Intel solutions (although the 945 is pretty darn good for an integrated solution). However, ExpressCard may be able to offer an external video card solution in the near future that will be superior to your Intel integrated. The question is when, and if the demand for it will be there.
