    Yes, the PC5300 SoDimm(667mhz) will clock itself down to PC4200's speed of 533mhz.

    It has always been my experience that more ram is better. On most newer machines dual channel won't give much of a performance increase, but everyone I know who has a new machine has Ubuntu which runs great with 1GB ram so I can't say anything about Vista.
