Can PATA SSDs support TRIM in Win7?

Except those native IDE solutions, most 1.8" SSDs have a SATA-TO-PATA bridge chip to convert the native SATA interface on the controller to the PATA interface, which is smililar to those RAID SSDs in terms of hardware architecture.
However, TRIM is not supported in any RAID SSDs, even though the controller in every one of the SSDs can.
Does this problem exist in bridged PATA SSDs? Can those PATA SSDs with stp bridge chip support TRIM in WIN7, provided that their controllers can?

i guess not, the PATA interface has itself no trim support, nor does the PATA driver.

it could get implemented. but it most likely won't.

Can someone who actually own one of those PATA SSDs verify the TRIM support?

I know nando4 has one by I can't pm him.

I understand Trim is an ATA7/ATA8 command so really depends on the SSD having firmware to accept and interpret that command.

Runcore ProIV ZIF PATA SSD - has Win7 trim support with firmware 1819 or newer.
Photofast V4 ZIF PATA SSD - no Win7 trim support, but has hardware based garbage collection.

Trim is a better implementation for Win7 use as cleans as it goes. If trim is important for you I'd suggest a Runcore ProIV (Indilinx + jmicron sata-to-pata chip) PATA SSD, or a Intel X18 G2/X25M G2 with a sata-to-pata bridge.

Great! Thank you so much nando4!

Another question, have you tried to flash the firmware on your RunCore? Is the upgrade process the same as it with other non-bridged SATA SSDs? I wonder if the bridge between the system and the controller would change the way to flash it, or even make it impossible.

TRIM was active and working last time I checked [am SSDless atm]. If looking to purchase suggest refer to latest notes: http://forum.pocketables.net/showthread.php?p=40213

Great, thanks! I'm indeed looking for purchase and great to hear about the new model! (But sort of strange that you've found TRIM working on the current model as the links seem to suggest a problem with the JMicron controller, makes me wonder if the setup somehow ignored the TRIM commands.)
