I have decided to upgrade the T4500 processor in my HP 620 laptop. I have asked guys in a forum about what are the compatibile models, they recommended the Core 2 P7-8 thousand series. The test softwares detect GL40 chipset in my laptop, but that only takes DDR2 memory, and supports FBS until 667 mHz. However the measurements show my system is working on 800 mHz, and it takes DDR3, I know, I upgraded it. So we concluded the chipset is GM45 in reality, they told me it happened earlier, too that someone had a GM45 chipset, yet, the software detected GL40.

So I choose the Core 2 P8800 processor, but I have just noticed, that on the website of HP, only the P7370 is listed as supported by the HP620 type laptop. Guys say it will take the P8800, too, however. What is your opinion? All processors I mentioned here are socket P.

If the chipset is actually a GM/PM45, it should be able to take the P8800.

The hurdle with the GL40 chipset is getting past whether or not it can support a Core 2 Duo at all; the T4500 in yours is a Pentium Dual-Core. This is a huge thread you might find useful:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/har...es/334009-gl40-chipset-cpu-compatibility.html

HP listing the 620 laptop supports the P7370 is positive news though though my brief research, it looks like a manufacturer-only CPU e.g. not purchasable by individual consumers; who knows if the microcode was tweaked, &c. HP is not known for being friendly to aftermarket upgradeability.

I'd say if you find anyone else with an HP 620 running an Intel Core 2 Duo P8000 series CPU successfully - that's as good of a confirmation as you're going to get.

1st. i replaced with T7100 much beter - T3000 was warking all the time 100% power T7100 has Dynamic FSB and Speed Step EIST ESS so its reduce base clock
2nd. i replaced for T7500 higer clock and more chache :) but i have small problem mesage in start up bios
"BIOS does not support the current stepping for processorFB" its shows for 3sec. and than OS is loading
but in os Win7 x64 its works fine no BSOD etc.

Bios is latest F.20 form 12/12/2011

and i get P8400 SLB3R and P8600 SLB3S and they are NOT WORKING

When you took it apart what was the socket module number? On the socket itself it does list the socket set type if you can inform us to what that is it would help better locate a processor for you also if there is eBay where your at you can type that socket set you can see what processor is used in it.
