I'm sold on purchasing an xps m1330 but I'm not sure what hardware I need to use my iPhone for internet connection, or if it's even possible.

Do I need the AT&T Cellular mobile broadband HSPDA 3.6 ($125 upgrade)?

I'd rather not pop for the $125 if I don't need to...and I have no plans to pay AT&T for another data plan. It makes sense that I could use the iPhone and current AT&T data plan, but I wanted to verify what hardware is necessary to make this work so I can configure it properly.

    Thank you.

If the iPhone can connect via bluetooth or infrared, you would be able to bypass the whole AT&T thing.
I have done this for palm pilots. I am not so sure with phones, cause I have never owned a cell phone.

Tethering an iPhone is against your cellphone contract. You can do it if you jailbreak your phone, but AT&T can disable your service or charge you extreme data usage fees.

Yes. it's possible. Your iphone must be jailbroken, and you must install a program that allows for this.

If apple finds out you've jailbroken or unlocked your iphone, it might just void your warranty. I'd search more about this on the internet for this.

Alternatively, you can just find a laptop that allows you to plug in your sim card and use your existing data plan.

Hmmm... I really have no interest in pulling a fast one on AT&t. Nor do I want to make changes to my iPhone.

I guess the answer is, if u really want to, u can. But it's not ethical, and if u get caught, you're hosed. And if apple puts out a patch targeting this, my iPhone gets hosed.

    Thanks for the replies.

Pfft. Jailbreak it, then when you need AT&T to inspect it for anything, restore the iPhone. That eliminates all traces of Jailbreaking.

Oh it's ethical. You pay for your data don't you? Why should AT&T tell you how to use your data?

If they catch you... whoop de doooo. They won't do anything. But its not even like they will catch you, I dont believe they care enough.
