Does HP have a full parts chain available to the consumer (I can buy anything I want inside any HP laptop), or is that not allowed?

I have an HP LaserJet 4 printer that I bought new in 1992 and I've kept it running since then because I could get parts and install them myself.

Is the HP laptop parts chain open or restricted?

    Thanks.

You've got like 3 threads open. Pick one, and ask all your questions there.

Your chassis is most likely made out of plastic, it's more or less a standard for notebooks, except for magnesium alloy (thinkpad) or aluminum (macbook pro). While there is danger of it cracking, you'd have to do some pretty stupid things to it.

I'm not sure about your specific model, but you'll most likely be able to upgrade the ram and hard drive while still under warranty. Anything else (i.e. processor - don't even THINK about upgrading your graphics card) won't be covered by HP.
