Hey guys looking to buy a new portable laptop in late march april. Possibility that the sandybridge laptops might show up. Getting about $400 at that time and probably sell my msi gx720 for about 400-500 if im lucky. So ill get a good $800 to spend. Acer, MSI , ASUS, or even dell need like 5+ hour battery life to take notes and surf the web preferably small but has a dedicated card for gaming when I lan that can hit bfbc2 in medium with no lag. The acer 4820tg does all that but im pretty sure the sandybridge might outperform it. thanks alot guys!

Here is a review of the reference laptop that was sent to various sites. Sandy Bridge is both very powerful (much closer in performance to desktop CPUs) and energy efficient (so you get a lot of battery life). That said, most laptops with it are not out yet -- if you're going to buy in March/April, wait until then. There will be a much wider selection; I'm sure you will be able to find something reasonable for $800.

Most SB laptops (especially Sager / Clevo variety) are already shipping and/or will be within a week. The Sager NP5160 and 5170 have Optimus with a GTX 540m GPU, so should get a decent battery life. That should get you decent frames in BC2 as well. NP5160 is $789 stock config but comes decently equipped:

    15.6" 1366x768
    i7-2630QM
    GTX 540m with Optimus
    4GB DDR3
    DVDRW
    320GB 7200RPM HDD
Windows 7 Home Premium is an extra $90 though.

    pro-star.com

Other options like Lenovo Y460 and 560 apparently are shipping soon with Sandy Bridge as well and should be comparably priced and equipped.

Well i looked at the lenovo graphics i hear on some are 6310 seems little weak. And that sager 540m seems awesome can play bfbc2 on high but im wondering how much battery life i should expect with wifi on and on power saving with the i7 sandybridge.

The listed battery life for a NP5160 is 3-5 hours... I'd probably err on the low side just in case.

No. Most Clevo SB laptops are already shipping, but that's a small fraction of SB laptops. We've not seen anything from Sony, Dell only updated the Alienware machines, HP has yet to update the Envy line -- there's a lot more of them coming in the next couple of months.

That said, the Sager 5160 is a pretty good machine for the money as long as one elects to upgrade the display; it's only $65.

All the resellers had the NP8130's with GTX 460m and NP8150's with GTX 485m shipping. They sold out of initial stock, but everything else is expected in the next week.

Either way, even if it's a small fraction, they are available SB laptops which is what the OP asked.

yea thanks for the info on clevo. Once they out and people have them im going to see how much battery life it gets. I really do hope its 5, 3 only seems reasonable if using the 540m instead of the sb graphics. and defintly not going to upgrade the screen on the 5160 to 1080p if i do. Keeping it with the 1366 because ill be able to play high on some most games i play on that res and will lasst longer in that res when playing games and would have to lower the screen. Either way I have a desktop that plays everygame in max, quote why i dont need my gx720 and i need more battery life from laptops and at least play low/medium on bfbc2 for when i lan. So happy for my desktop spent about 1200-1500 lost track. LOL but i had fun.
