I was looking for a SSD with about 120gb for a while now.
Since there's so much of them out there and don't really know much about the specs, I really need help. :D
I would like a balance between price and performance (tight on budget).
I was also wondering if there's a big/noticeable difference between a new and used drive.
If you guys have anything on mind, it would be much appreciated! ;)
    Thanks!

I think there is a Kingston on sale which was mentioned in another thread just a few back.

I would not recommend used SSD unless you get a really good price.

    @chimpanzee: Thanks! You're really helpful!

I looked at Intel 80gb and Kingston 126gb and notice the really big difference on the power consumption.
What would be the negative effects of the high consumption on the Kingston?

I don't know about the power consumption detail but I in general only look at idle power as that would be the state 70%+ of the time the drive is in. In that regard, most SSD are more or less the same.

Sure there will be some difference but not something I concern(30 minutes?). They will still be much better than HDD.

So the power consumption only affect the battery life? Doesn't affect any other internal components since it draws higher current?
    Intel 80g: 0.075W(idle) & 0.150W(active)
    Kingston 128g: 0.7W(idle) & 5.2W(active)

it only affects battery life. I believe most HDD has a peak around 5w.

0.7W idle seems on the high side, where do you get that information. When an SSD is at idle, the only think that draw power is the cache RAM and controller. Does it have lots of RAM or a powerful controller ?

People are saying that that Kingston drive is a bit slow, and that it draws more power during normal use, than a 7200rpm drive does!!! NOT worth it at that price point.

Used, and Not used: they should perform the same, especially if it is a newer drive that has TRIM; and if it has a valid warranty on the drive, and it isn't working like it should, then you can get a replacement if need be

I got a 2.5" Patriot Inferno 120GB SSD (a nice high performance Sandforce 1200 drive) back in mid November for $215 after a MIR, and then sold the laptop I was using it in in early January, but I still have the SSD. I am actually looking into [maybe] selling it as I can't use it in my current computer (this computer has a 1.8" drive bay), so if you are interested, keep an eye out in the Marketplace section (or PM me)

Why not go for the Intel 120 GB...given where you shop sometimes its only 30-40 more.

everyone is different but I would not touch a sandforce drive until I see the known issue faded. It works in one machine doesn't mean it works in another.

Heavily banged SSD has a shortened life remains, TRIM doesn't help that.

No experience with kingston and the power consumption so can't comment. If battery life is a major concern, it has to be considered.

    Thanks for the help guys!
My budget would be about 200$.
I would prefer to buy it from newegg since they give me 25$ off on 50$+ order.
Its the shipping (Hawaii) that also adds trouble since most of the online stores only provide shipping that cost about 20$ or more.
    Any recommendations?

Not that many people really need SSD. Among the 3(now 4) laptops I use, only one is changed to SSD and I can surely go back to HDD, not going to kill me.

If you frequently reboot your machine(one guy in my office does), SSD makes it much faster to get to a usable desktop. But so can XT.
