Just received my sony vaoi VPC-CA15fx/W in the mail. Bought it online, also own a sony vpc z133gx.

Thought they would have the same quality screens - boy was i wrong. The CA is grey in comparison, poor contract, bad colour matching a dog. It came with a relatively big video card and a blue ray player so i just assumed it would come with a high quality screen. No. its comes with a ty, low quality, low contrast, dark, cant be used for photo editing which is why i bought it piece of garbage screen.

Expat living in Germany. Can not return it, i bought it from the US as the keyboards here are too different.

Is it possible to buy a higher quality screen and slot it in?

i need white to be white, black to be black etc,

Possible? how? Where do I get screen? How do i ensure it will work when i get it etc etc

do a google search on screen calibration.......

It's a very basic skill/requirement for anyone who hopes to do graphics work, including photo editing.

Um... i've been calibrating screens since i first learnt photoshop.... and i learnt on photoshop 1 so do the math.

    See the attached picture.

    Both Sony's

One has a beautiful, bright, high contrast screen.
One has a ty, rubbish, low brightness, low contrast, poor colour accuracy screen.

I want to know if I can swap in a better one.

    Calibration is irrelevant.

If you go for the same resolution and backlighting type, then it is very likely.

If you want a higher res screen it might get tricky.

I never said the exact same screen from the same manufacturer, but a 1366x768 panel requires only a single LVDS channel, a resolution like 1920x1080 requires two. If you have a 1366x768 LED backlit lcd, then any 1366x768 led backlit panel should work (unless there's a whitelist), you just have to find a better one. Fitting a 1080p panel instead of a 1366x768 is often not feasible, that is the kind of limitations i was talking about.

In short, get a panel with the same type of backlight and resolution that has a better image quality.

searching for the right screen for my laptop on laptop screen sites... i put in my model number and the only replacement that comes up is a glossy, 1600 x 900.

My screen resolution for my model for some reason seems not to be offered.

OK... the 1920 is not going to work...

    what about the 1600?

Actually, i think 1600x900 and 1920x1080 both use dual channel LVDs so they should be swappable. As long as you can find one that fits. You may still be stuck with glossy, but there are some half decent glossy lcds.

I gave 1366x768 as an example because most of the worst panels sport that resolution.

EDIT @OP, what is your current native resolution, your last post leads me to believe it is 1600x900, but it's best to make certain.

Actually, can't remember who but someone here tried to swap a single LVDS channel panel with 1080p panel, and he got only 1440x900.

I would go for a 1366x768 led backlit panel, personally.

I have 1366x768 led backlit panel on both my ASUS and ACER (signature).

My ACER is a little bit darker, but god the colors are soo much more beautiful to look at. I've had them side by side, and yes brighter screen is nice, but everything looks soo, white...

Ah, there is matt 1366x768 led backlit panels as far as I have seen around. One of the 5739G owners have one.

OK, seems i have left out some info.

Currently, the screen is 1366x768 Matt
    Wow, its so rubbish.
I've gone to laptop screen websites and put in my model?
The only screen size that comes up is 1600 x 900 - don't know why.

I am happy to put in the same resolution, or higher. That part, i don;t care about.

What I want though, is super sharp, bright colours.

The laptop screen sites say you need to pick your model, they will supply the right screen.... but in this case either I am going to get the same crappy screen, or a 1600 x 900 screen which I think Tijo is saying will not work.

So. How do i pick a higher spec screen, and how do i work out if its going to work in my laptop?

Earlier this year i was working on an newish ASUS with the same resscreen and screen quality was AWESOME in comparison to this crappy Sony so I figure they screens do come in good enough quality, in the right size.

    But i remain lost.

How can I know what ones will actually work in my laptop, what will slot in etc?

BTW, i am not a sony hater, my z series is the bomb. My c series, is not.

The other issue is making sure there is the same backlight connector and supply power and also connector type. Some are 30 and some are 40.

Some notebook manufacturers use the same screens in a particular line. Getting that information is easier with companies like HP and Dell.

Try asking in the Sony section for service manual links or any pertinent info some who may have done this on other Sony models may have to offer.

It's not simple plug in play until you get all the correct info.

    No, its not faulty.

    a. I've taken it into a shop and compared it with the floor models. Same brightness.

    b. The screen beside it is on a vaio Z series. Its lightyears better.

    c. Screen beside is gloss, so when i take a photo it reflects more light. The brightness difference is not as great to the naked eye as in the photo

Basically, ive realised this model is a huge con job from sony. Blue ray? check. Big video card? check.... so you don;t bother to research the screen spec which is basically about as rubbishy as you can get.

Its like selling a laptop with an i7 chip, and 512meg of ram.

    not happy
