    The 8400M GS is a discrete gpu that is permanently affixed to the HP system boards. There is no way to swap it with something else.

    No, because that gpu was the only discrete one offered on that series notebook.

    Unfortunately, very few notebooks have upgradeable gpus (and even the ones that do are limited to specific gpus originally offered by the mfgr).

    There is no way to soft or hard mod this GPU once it is purchased, without buying a completely new dv6000 motherboard with a different chip. Needless to say, that will cost several hundred dollars and is not worth it.
