Hi, i'm considering buying an 22-24" external monitor. My questions are:

    1. Is the VGA port capable of 1920x1200 resolution ? I tried to connect my laptop to a 19" HP with 1280x1024 resolution and the result is not really good (the letters looks blurry). DVI is not an option because this laptop doesn't have DVI port.

    2. My video card is an ATI Mobility X2300. Is it capable to drive both external monitor and laptop monitor (1440x900) at the same time ? I don't play games, just do some programming and designing.

Yes to both answers. VGA can support up to 1920x1200

Yes, it will be able to output that resolution. The rest it may have looked blurry is if you weren't running at the screen's native resolution. Use the ATI control panel to optimize the output picture.

    Definitely possible
I have my Dell E1505 hooked up to my 24" dell monitor over VGA, sporting 1920x1200 resolution

Thank you all for replying. Now it's time to research, which monitor is best bang for the bucks :p

@atbnet: i was not clear in the first post. The monitor was in native resolution. The letters on it weren't that blurry like we'd see in non-native resolution but were not crisp, compare to the output coming from my PC. I guess it is where DVI is better than VGA.

You can try going here: www[dot]lagom[dot]nl/lcd-test/clock_phase.php (I can't post links yet -- replace [dot]s with dots :)), put your browser in full screen mode, and use the LCD's autoset (button or menu function). It can sharpen up the text. It also depends on the quality of the VGA signal from the video card -- some can produce a sharper signal than others.
