    I'm looking at this:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824001317

and it says the max resolution is 2048x1152, 16:9. I have a Compaq Presario CQ50-110US with only a VGA connection. It has an NVIDIA GeForce 8200m integrated graphics card solution.

According to their website, they said the max resolution with a VGA connection is 2048x1536. But I have doubts over this claims and Samsung's warnings that this might require a dual link DVI to get the optimal resolution.

If anyone can clarify this, please let me know. I know VGA is capable of running 1920x1080 without hiccups, my brother does that with his Vizio TV and his desktop.

VGA can run 1920x1200 without a problem on my E1505.

I really wonder as to how they state the limits of VGA, because I think it is a lie. I think it has to do with the graphics card more than anything. I know at home, I could run 3840 x 2880 resolution to my EIZO Flexscan CRT, just from a geforce go 6200 on VGA. I think your laptop should have no problem running 1920x1200, and it should run 2048x1152 also.
If it does not run this resolution at first, you can use ATi Tool or nVidia drivers to force a resolution.

At worst you might have to scale down to a bit lower resolution i think you should be fine. Too bad your CQ50 didnt come with an HDMI port.
